The field goal was unique in that it was a free kick under a rule Garrison has successfully employed before but is only known to the most sophisticated of football followers. The rules states that after a fair catch a team may try a field goal unmolested by the defense. With the help of a gusty wind, Fenwick put his foot to the ball, as the Ocean City players watched helplessly, and kicked it squarely tlyough the uprights The kick had enough gusto to go still further. maybe even half way .across the Atlantic Ocean. • I LOVE IT. I love it," said Fenwick when he . returned to the sidelines. The longest distance he had ., kicked in a game before, he skid, was 30 yards and that was nullified by a penalty. The new record beats the 46 yard mark set last year by Ken Bamberger, now at Glassboro State. Fenwick’s heroics aside, the Capers still struggled in the first half. Ocean City scored the first time it took to the offense. It gained possession on the Cape May 27 after a wind blown punt that went 10 yards. Hard running halfback Mark Luisi carried the ball in five of the six plays (enc was an incomplete pass) and toted it across for the TD' from the two yard line. ' The kick attempt failed when the ball was fumbled on the snap The Cape May attack stalled until 3:44 left in the second quarter when Fenwick’s derring-do returned the ball for 54 yards and a touchdown. His kick made the score,-7-6, and it looked like Cape May was on the way. But just when the spectators were catching their breaths. Ocean City’s Jonathan Dice came up with the right numbers and rolled his way to an 85-yard touchdown run on the ensuing kickoff. After the kick failed, Ocean. City was again ahead, 12-7.

Dori» Ward ERIC FENWICK had a great day for the Ixiwer Cape May Regional High School football team in its victory over Ocean City. Here he kicks a record setting 47 yard Held goal. He also ran a punt back for A 57 yard TD and kicked two extra points.

ping field goal with 1:04 left in the third quarter boosted the score to what appeared to be a comfortable 23-12 lead. But as the Caper fan? were preparing for a celebration, a development occurred that proves coaches’ strategies are only as good as the people who carry them out. With his team in possession on its own 10 yard line and a tough wind blowing agamst it, Garrison took what he thought would be the easy way out, ordering his back to run into the end zone for a safety. The trouble was the bark fumbled the ball in the end zone and Ocean City’s Bill -Bowman recovered forafquchdown. A two poi^ conversion pass from oltl Shimp to Dice increasefphe score to 23-20. It also increased Garrison’s age by 10 years.

THE CAPERS finally took the lead for good with 7:07 left in the third quarter, culmmiating a 40-yard drive with a nine yard touchdown run by halfback David Craig. A pass conversion attempt failed but the Tigers were now ahead, 13-12. Two plays later, defensive back Bob Bonner picked off his second interception and scampered 45 yards for another Cape May touchdown. Fenwick’s extra point kick and his whop-
