COURT HOUSE - The Cape May Court House Kiwanis Club presented awards to three area newspapers, including the Herald, for "outstanding service to our commuhi- • ty," at its regular weekly meeting Thursday. October 14. Presenting the awards was the Club’s Citizenship Committee Chairman Sam Wierman, who recognized the are.-* newspapers for their efforts overall, and especially for their coverage and promotion of Kiwanis affairs. The awards were given in commemoration of National Newspaper Week. October 10-16. On hand to receive the awards were Herald Publisher Darrell Kopp; Larry Boyer, publisher of
the Gazette-Leader; Bob • Ebener. managing editor of the Atlantic City Press; and William Watson, alio of the Press. At the same meeting. Kiwanis Club members were treated to a brief talk by Air Force Sgt. Allyn Penketham, a 1977 graduate of Middle Township High School. Sgt. Penketham is the daughter of the Courth House Kiwanis' immediate pastp r e s i d c n)t Robert Penketham Jr., and grandaughter of club member Robert Penketham Sr. Sgt. Penketham was introduced by her‘former Middle Township ROTC Commander Arthur Cornell. who is also treasurer of the Kiwanis. Afterward, she was congratulated by Club President Dr. Tfed
Johnson as not only an exemplary representative graduate of Middle Township scho<Jls. but as a model of how women can effectively serve their country in the armed forces. Sgt. Penkethman spoke to the group on her own experience and development in the Air Force, and about the role which her current base assignment. Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, plays in the nation’s defense. Sgt. Penkethman serves as a supervisor in inventory management in base Supply at Dover.
