BRUTAL OUT OEIKNighthawk, P.O. Box 15856, St. Louis, Mo. 63114) is the newest release from the excellent reggae trio The Itals. On top of the smooth, relaxing reggae rhythms, The Itals sing in pure, pleasing voices, proving why they are onfc of the better reggae groups around. Iggy Pop is one of the most written about legends in rock—despite the fact he’s never had a hit. He's made some brilliant records, as well as some terrible ones, but onstage .there are few who can equal his showmanship. For working an audience into a frenzy, he’s up there with James Brown and Mick Jagger. Unfortunately, his new new album. Zombie Birdhouse <Animal/ChrysalisO is rather unevena. Iggy Pop is in fine voice, but several of these songs are barely passable. Iggy Pop is still one of the greats in rdek, but it’s doubtful he’ll find the elusive hit with this album.
WITH HEAVY METAL raging a major comeback, Los Angeles’ Motley Crue seem destined for stardom. Too Fast For Love (Elektra) is full of hot guitar breaks, aggressive melodies, and powerful vocals. It won't be long before Motley Crue arc headliners. At last, it’s back in print. Rhino Records (11609 West Pico Blvd., Los Angeles, CA. 90064) has reissued The Turtles Greatest Hits. This fine Los Angeles band was one^f the most consistent top-10 groups in the midsixties. From the folk-rock of It Ain’t Me Babe to the pop of Happy Together and • the psychedelic .feel of Sound Asleep The Turtles always showcasecf excellent harmonies and strong musical support. The 14 gems on this record have stood the test of time rather'nicely, and it's good to know one can easily find the hits of The Turtles. Don’t forget, Rhino reissued the first Turtles' album, too.
