NEWARK. - If the number of telephones in an area is indicative of how talkative people are, then New Jersey residents have a lot to say. They/have nearly four percent of all the telephones in America, according to the latest edition of The World's Telephones." The publication, compiled by the Long Lines

Department of AT&T, in dicates there are more than 180 million phones nationwide. New Jersey has more than 6.7 million pfyones in service.

number of phones in the world has swelled by 58, percent, or 237.6 million. In terms of talking, peole in the United States.led the way, last year completing about 257 billion local, long distance and overseas conversations. Almost II billion of those calls were made by New ilerseyans. Davenport said.
