Engineering Scholarships WASHINGTON. DC. - The National Society of Professional EnginefcVs' (NSPE) Education Foundation will accept applications until Nov. 15 from high school seniors for its 1983 national engineering scholarship program. it is the largest program of its kind in the U.S. Projected assistance committed to engineering students in the program is $1.2 million through the academic year 1985-86. The Education Foundation will award scholarships and grants wo^th more than $354,000 in 1983.. THE PROFESSIONAL Engineering Society of Southern New Jersey held its first monthly meeting of the year Sept. 29 in Clementon. ThO dinner meeting followed a tour of the A.T.&T. Long Lines Switching Center in Winslow Towtnship. •

The proclamation’s recommendation was supsported by the New Jersey Thoracic xSociety, medical arm of the American Lung Association of New Jersey. , i The statement advised that *all New Jersey residents over the age of 50, and particularly, those suffering from chronic illnesses such as lung disease, heart desease, diabetes and kidney disorders, face a higer risk of getting pneumonia this winter, and recommended they consult their personal physicians this Fall about getting a pneumococcal vaccination. LEE B. REICHMAN, M.D.. M.P.H., President of the New Jersey Thoracic Society, explained, “This vaccine should be administered only upon the advice of a physician who knows the patient’s complete medical history,” and that it is usually given only to people who are in the aforementioned high-risk

group.

Medicare and Medicaid cover both the vaccination and an office visit for the

immunization shot.
