Middle's Band Finishes 2nd

bv Jacob Schaad Jr. MIDDLE TOWNSHIP - It was a weekend that almost was. for Middle Township High School. The Panther's football team lost a bid for the Cape Atlantic League championship on Saturday when it dropped a fluke game to Ocean City High School. 9-7. (See sports page.) Then on Sunday the Middle Township prize winning band competed for the Atlantic Coast championship and lost to Northern Highlands of Bergen CtfWT ty by one quarter of a point ,(84.40 to 84.15). The Panthers’ marching band finished second among 20 bands from Maryland, Virginia, Delaware. Pennsylvania. New Jersey, New York and

Connecticut. This was the second straight year that Mtddl,e finished second, coming closer than last year’s mark of 82.8 which was beaten by an 83.2 score. Band director Richard Ludwig said he is “very proud" of his contingent, especially since it had the best musical score in the competition (18.9 out of a possible 20). In musical analysis, the Panthers scored 8.7 out of 10 and in general effect 14.6 out of 20. The competition took’ 'place at Ben Salem High School, Ben Salem. Pa. and it marked the fifth straight year that Middle Township had qualified through preliminary competition for the Atlantic Coast championship.
