She’s a hot shooting basketball player, was the first girl selected to the Middle Towaship AllStar Little League baseball team and finished seventh in the United Stated in a softball distance throw competition that was part of the Hershey Track and Field national finals in Charleston, West Virginia. PERHAPS THE biggest accomplishment for the 5-2 sixth grader at Middle School No. 4 was her recent performance that won her a first place tie in the girls’ 9-12 year old finals of the Pepsi Challenge/NBA Hotshot program -in Philadelphia. She scored a total of 90 points during three, one minute shooting periods from distances a^ far as 24 feet from the basket and as close as 12 feet. Now Michelle has a big-, gor thrill ahead of her. Her top vscore earned her a chance to participate in the Level 4 area finals to be held at the^Spectrum during th^iSixers-Pistons halftimeMh December 11. Michelle represented the Middle Township Recreation Department and the others who represented the department at the finals included her brother, Howard; Mark Collins and Kara McVey. Michelle’s family is steeped in athletics. Her mother, Marilyn, played basketball five years in Brooklyn with the C.Y.O. and coaches her offspring. She has a sister, Tracy, 13, who also is a wizard on the basketball court. It won’t be long before her five-year-old brother, Brian, joins the athletic clan. ‘‘The coaches at the high school are drooling to get her," commented Greg Arnold, director of recreation at Middle Township. Michelle can hardly wait, either. But first she has other matters to attend to, like moving on in the Pepsi competition. FIVE CAPE MAY County surfers brought home awards in the 11th annual Eastern Surfing Championships held at Cape Hatteras, N.C. Wildwood Crest’s Lisa Roselli finishr ed third in the women’s finals, scoring a first in the women’s bodyboard and a second in the individ paddlehoard finals. SE

Other area surfers who made it Ur the finals were Kevin Crumley and George Gerlach, both of Ocean City; Joe Grottola of Wildwood Crest and Brian Heritage of Sea Isle City. LITTLE LEAGUE football fans should keep Sunday, November 21, at 12:30 p.m. on their calendar. That’s when the Cape May County Rams Pee Wee football team lake on the Upper Township Warriors for the county championship at Middle Township Memorial Field. The Rams clinched a playoff spot by beating the Middle township Bobcats, 6-0. David Dills four yard touchdown run provided the difference. A MUDDY course didn’t help, but Ocean City’s Melody Sye still managed a third place finish in Group III with a time of 20:14 in the New Jersey State Interscholastic Association cross country championships. Her performance now qualifies her to compete in the Meet of Champions at Holmdcl Park on Saturday. Joey Hall of Wildwood placed 18th in Group I with a time of. 17:38.
