4th. Business Administration teacher and Guidance Counselor, James Conlln. asked us if we would judge the halls decorated by each * of the four classes. Mr, Cdnlin also invited Jerry Rowland and Ardis ('mil. The jud|es walked thru the four halls independently and rated each on their ballots. An almost impossible task was made less difficult by the ballots specifying a maximum number of points to be given in each of numerous categories, including originality of theme, adherence to theme, color and general neatness of hall.,,. The final results: Sophmores won with Hall B and a total of 277 points. In the following order winners were: Juniors - Hall A, 265; Seniors - Cafeteria 258; and Freshmen - Hall D, 251. All were highly original, but the winning Sophs, chose seasons of the school year as their theme. * • • • WE STOPPED to see Charles' and Ethel Rtidrauff recently to hear about the trip they took with friends, llezel and Lyman Saulpaugh of Maple Shade, on the flagship of the N.A.L. Line, the Sagafjord. They flew to Ft. Lauderdale, Fa. and boarded the ship there.’Their ‘ arrival was early and they were delighted to be invited to come aboard and have lunch with a group of travel agents who were being entertained that day. They were also pleased to find .they had a spacious stateroom and connecting sitting room adjoining their friends on top deck. Charles was unstinting in his praise of the crew. “The crew, the stewards, everybody connected with k the line, they couldn’t do enough for you,” he said. It was Ethel’s birthday and

she was wearing an orchid which Margie and Jim Often had sent her when they went to dinner. Charles mentioned Ethel’s birthday to their towering waiter. Wolfgang, and* minutes later appropriate music was playing and a B-day cake was.delivered to their table. Twenty-one-year-old Wolfgang later told the Rudraqffs he went to sea at age 16 and was now the maitre de of their dining

room.

FROM LAUDERDALE they went to St. Thomas, Santo Domingo, and then on to Cartagena, Columbia. They had never been in Cartagena before and loved it! Took the whole tour, even climbing up the steep hill to the old fort built to repel the Spaniards and other invaders. To quote Charles, ”1 mean that was some climb up there — and. brotherrr, the walls were so thick nothing could have • penetrated them so there was not way to return fire. Nobody could have climbed that hill without being killed.” From there they traveled to the Panahia Canal. Unlike other ships, freighters, and tankers tftey were permitted thru without delay. They passed through Gatun Lock and Lake drawn by small diesel engines called “Mules.” They traveled west (contrary to most people’s opinion) from Colon and Cristobal to emerge in the Pacific at, Panama City and Balboa. There were a few surprises. The pleasant one was that their cruise director was Joe Rankin, and old friend of Danny Leone’s of Stone Harbor (we arc told) who was a cruise director for another steamship line. The unpleasant was that it cost 4S 3 to mail a postcard from the ship, and they missed a couple of expected stops in Mexico.
