SPENT a lovely Sat. night as guests of the John Kokonos of Stone Harbor and Havertown. They also invited the Henry Ensslens, their new son-in-law's parents. We went early to get a table at the Washington Inn in Cape May. The place is charming and so popular you have to go early to get in. If ambience is your thjpg, this is for you. We sat near a roaring fire where we could see the hothouse containing expertly lighted exotic plants. The sendee was excellent, the waitress unusually gracious, food superb, and the company unbeatable.
RUTH and Gene Fisher of 3rd Ave.. and Jane'and Carey Boss last week joined forces to throw one whale of a party at the Bosses home on 84th St The gmb was so bully that for the first time in our memory we went back for seconds. If that last sentence sounded a bit British we're glad, because the theme of\ the party was' English/ Carey and Jane spent >the summer touring^ritain by car and after dinner they shared their trip with us via all* the wonderful movies they had taken while traveling. Their home was decorated suitably with memorabilia they collected such as flags, bobby hats, car caps and pub signs. In this atmosphere Carey gave us a brief talk on his impressions of the English in general. He was most pleased that they have a 1 nvbst completely eliminated trash, but ran into a big surprise when he went shopping. He went out to Purchase some groPBries, paid for them aiw waited for them to be bilged. Slight problem —
WE WERE interested to hear Councilman R. Jack Fitzpatrick say 1 that a committee has been studying ways to make the riding of 'bikes during summer safer ior all residents and guests. One of the options may be to ban bikes from business areas. We’ve discussed this subject with baby people and the idea finding alfhost universal appeal is that of having all bikes licensed. That way offenders wilf be readily identifiable and therefore easily reported tjo the authorities. WE HAD a great night at the Big Apple last week. • Sat. evening “our daughter the actress" Maris Clement called to tell us that favorite cousins Glz and Norman Macdonald were flying in from San Diego and would be in Manhattan for Sunday only. We were still sporting the spray dye we used for Halloween, our spouse was short on cash, both our clunkers were malfunctioning and the master of the house, our mini-dachshund Schnitzel had no place to stay. useful, sometimes they achieve Robert Redford status. This .time our consort reached the latter level. He made reservation at Mi-Shagran Kennels for Long Louis, reservations for us in N.Y. thru Best Western in Cape May. got the» older of tfie clunkers running, and next morning
we were off. We spent two happy years in Greenwich Village during WWII and it’s neat having a daughter living there now. It’s the one place. in the world one can get a delicious and affordable meal at any hour , Maris knows the territory and all our tastes.
The five of us had clinnebat the Sweet Basil. 88th and 7th Ave. There was live Dixie land music (without amplification, which we |>ate) ' played by Eddie Chamblee and his quartet. As always there, was a terrific choice of esoteric dishes, and we had a swell time.
