MUA Lauds Response

SWAINTON - Avilon residents are to be commended for their excellent response to the community's new recycling program, said Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority Recycling Coordinator Diane DeMeo. "We had a tremendous response from the community. Thirty-four percent of the residents participated in the first week and we expect that to increase." DeMeo said. "We’re very pleased with the support and commitment Avalon residents have shown to the county recycling effort.” AVALON BECAME the eighth Cape May County municipality to jifnt the recycling progranu when collections began Nov. 15. In the first week, 7,180 pounds of recyclable^ were collected at curbside, 3,220 pounds of newsprint and 3,960 pounds of glass. Residents have deposited another 4,300 pounds of recyclables at the drop-off site since the program began. They delivered 3,720 pounds of glass and 580 pounds of newsprint, Avalon Borough Administrator Andrew Bednarek echoed Ms. DeMeo’s praise for the Borough residents. “BOROUGH OFFIQIALS are extremely happy that our residents are actively participating in the recycling effort because the success of the program depends on them," Bednarek said. "I hope they keep up this fine effort because we want Avalon to be Cape May County’s Number One • recylcer."
