SEASHORE FOLKS are notorious gamblers — gambling on the economy. Mother Nature and what-have-you. However, 1983 already shapes up as better than 1982 For or ’ thing, there will be no World's Fair Tradi tionally. any World’s Fair, good or bad, cuts into seaside business With Knoxville out of the way, there won't be any fair competition until New Orleans in 1984 One of our key markets, Philadelphia, won't be celebrating anything this year and will sink into its summer doldrums The impact of the Tall Ships ceremony, for example, had devastating effect on Wildwood business l^ast season was Philly's 300th anniversary. THANKS TO an almost miraculous performance by Karl Ostrander, the slate bulges with conventions In fact, one booked for the third weekend in May is so large it's hoped every island business wil! be in operation to adequately take care of the delegates, There's b<?en more new construction than the past five winters and the biggest yet to begin This will lx? IT’S ONE of the loveliest Christmas trees ever The one in Cape May City Hall auditorium It's not too large but the shape is perfect It's from the Potter florist of the Washington Mall, and reminded me of my childhood days at home Outside house decora lions in West Cape May were delightful At Cass and Bill Dwyer's it looks like a Christmas wonderland. Next-door at Helen and Reggie Brown's all the twinkling lights give you a feeling of warmth At Cape May Point the home of Charles and Jean Reeves lights up the island And at Victorian Towers in Cape May all you have to do is look up There's such a variety of Christmas lighting, all beautiful. Our Lady Star of the Sea Church on the Mall is the epitome of Christmas spirit. There's a creche outside, one on the doorstep of the rectory and a large beautiful one displays at the front altar Outside lights and the large star reaching almost to the church steeple make it Christmas all right! Sex ton, Charles McBride is hard-at-work with his handiwork.
