Program Slashes Hospital Costs
COURT HOUSE - Supplies and purchased services make up a large part of the cost of treating hospital patients. Employees of Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital here are becoming more conscious of that fact through a monthly Cost Awareness Day Contest in which all employees can participate THE PROGRAM was started when Diane Pilar, Director of Materials Management, called on volunteers from the hospital s Cost Containment Committee to develop a plan for employee educa tiort to reduce waste and product abuses. Responding to the need were George Goldman, R.R.T, Director of Respiratory Therapy; Joy Gre^nway, Secretary of Rcsplrtory Therapy; Nancy Dougherty. Starting in August, 1982, once every other month since, a Cost Awareness Day table was assembled outside the employee cafeteria. On display were six items from selected departments within the hospital IN AUGUST, the display - consisted of miscellaneous items of large expenditures from various areas within the institution The October program addressed medical/surgical products and in December.
