WILDWOOD - Assemblyman Guy F Muziani is pushing a national lottery as a way to raise money to help finance Social Security Muziani, R-Cape May, Cumberland, is sponsoring in the Assembly a resolution introduced in the Senate by Sen. John P. Gallagher of Middlesex County The bill calls upon Congress to establish a na tional lottery, "the proceeds of which shall be us ed to fund the Social Security system.” THE JOINT resolution notes that the Social Security program "has been plagued with financial difficulties for many years, while the work force of this nation continues to pay a large percentage of its income toward keeping the system afloat " Muziani said the success of the New Jersey lottery leads him to believe that a national lottery would produce large sums of money In 1981 New Jersey took in $148 million in its lottery program. In 1982, with a recession even worse than

the previous year, the revenue soared to $517 million. "If nothing else, a national lottery will be a financial cushion for the system,’' Muziani said ON ANOTHER topic. Muziadi said that the recent winter storm emergency in the Rocky Mountain and upper Midwest states emphasize the shortsightedness of a ban on keroscene heaters Cmmniinications Course Set MAYS LANDING - Due to the considerable interest expressed by the public safety community, and the success of the Fall 1982 Course, The Commumca tions Officers of South Jersey, in cooperation with the Atlantic County Fire Fighters Association, are again pleased to announce the formation of an additional Basic Public Safety Communications Course this winter at Atlantic Community College The course will meet 7-9:30 p.m Mondays, beginning Jan 31 and en ding May 2, at Atlantic Community College Room A110 here. "I wonder how many people have seriously considered what the loss of electric service during the winter months would mean to most homeowners,” Muziani said. "ALL HOMES heated by electric and most homos heated by oil or gas would be completely without heat, because most of these systems are operated with electric. Without a bottle gas stove, fireplace, wood stove or other device, the modern home would require something like a kerosene heater during such crises ” Muziani is the sponsor of bills which exempt kerosene heater purchases from the sales tax and require warning labels to insure the safe use of kerosene heaters. The bill sponsored by Sen. John P. Canfield (D Essex) to ban kerosene heaters in New Jersey is unnecessary, Muziani said, if users are properly cautioned about possible dangers of the heaters and use them properly
