Osteopath Named to Faculty
OCEAN CITY - James D. Lavis, D O., of Cherry Hill, has been appointed to the faculty of the New Jersey School of Osteopathic Medicine of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Camden. He is clinical assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology. WASHINGTON, D C - In a major victory for Ocean County, Congressman Bill Hughes <DNJ) announced today that the U.S Army Corps of Engineers has agreed to expedite the construction of a new south jetty in
Barnegat Inlet.
Hughes said the Army Corps’ deeftion means the
sodth jetty project can proceed directly to the construction stage without further time-consuming reviews or approvals. He said this will save millions of dollars in eventual construction costs, and help bring an end to the hazardous conditions which have plagued Barnegat Inlet for

Child Safety Program Set COURT HOUSE - The County Chapter of the American Red Cross will sponsor a "Safety Belt and Child Restraint Driver's Education" course at the Stone Harbor School all purpose room, S3rd and 3rd St., 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3. The instructor will be Officer Jim Plousis, a representative of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The purpose of the one hour course is to familarize persons having children in their cars with the proposed law on child safety in cars and ita enforcement. Davis Receives Teaching Degree AVALON — Christopher L. Davies, of 2139 Ocean Dr, graduated from West Chester State College last month with a B.S.ED Degree in Social Studies and History. Christopher is also a member of the Phi Alpha Theta International History Honor Society, was head coach of Pierce Middle School Lower Level Football Team in West Chester. Pa., and was on the Dean's List with a 4.0 average for the fall semester. Ll. Hardaway Goes To Lackland AFB OCEAN CITY - Second Lt. Betty A. Hardaway, has arrived for duty at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. Hardaway, supply officer with the 438th Military Airlift Wing, was previously assigned at McGuire Air Force Base. Her husband, Air Force Masted Sgt James W. Hardaway, is the son of Robert Hardaway^ of 721 Moore Ave., here.
Heating Surveys Offered
AVALON — Through the borodgh Planning Board, energy audits to enable residents to. save on heating costs are available for one to four-family homes. The residential service is available at a cost of $15. It is offered through the Home Energy Savings Program (HESP), designed to help state residents learn how to save energy and energy related expenses. BUSINESS OWNERS
may apply for an audit survey to the state Department of Energy. Under the Commercial and Light Industrial Energy Technical Services Program (CLIENTS). The survey is free to business owners. Brochures detailing the services are available at the Planning Board office of Mrs. Yvonne S. Ballenger, administrative officer, at Borough Hall, 31st and Dune Dr.
Library Photo Contest
COURT HOUSE - The County Library announces its participation in the 1983 state wide Photography Contest sponsored by the New Jersey Library Association. /. The contest is open t^all amateur photographers residing in the state of NeV Jersey, who visit their local public library, school library, college library or special,library. '‘GELT IT AT Your Libra^'is (he theme for the contest, with suggested subject matter being people attending library programs or using library facilities. Examples include browsing for books, storyhours, reading newspapers or periodicals, film programs, reference assistance and selecting or listening to records and tapes. ENTRIES SHALL consist of unmounted, unretouched, black and white or color prints ranging from a minimum size of 3x3 inches to a maximum size of 8*10, Contestants may use any type of still camera with or without a flash attachment. Contestants are not required to develop or process their own films or prints.
There 1 * are seven qategories for entries: 1) Public library, children 6-11; 2) Public library, children 12-18; 3) Public library, adults 18 and up; 4) Elementary School Library, kindergarten to grade six; 5) Middle School and High School, grades -MvCn through 12; 6) College libraries; 7) Special libraries. ALL ENTRIES must be submitted by Feb. 15, and a completed entry form must be attached to each photographic print. Entries may be submitted to any participating public or school library. Entry forms are available at the County Library and its branches. Prizes will be awarded in each of the seven categories and 50 Honorable Mention certificates will be awarded statewide. Herr Accepted By Widener AVALON — Jonathan Dickson Herr, of 4816 4th Ave., has been accepted for fall, 1983 admission to Widener University, it was announced by Vincent F. Lindsley, vice president for student services and dean of admissions. Widener University is a private, coeducational institution with campuses in Chester , Pa ., and Delaware, six miles north of Wilmington. Jonathan plans to studjrengineering. Boro Student On Dean's List AVALON — Borough resident Donald Richardson, a second-year student at the Widener University School of Hotel and Restaurant Management, has been named to the Dean's List in recognition of academic achievement during the fall semester. Richardson is the son of Mr and Mrs. Jack Richardson. The Widdner University School of Hotel and Restaurant Manage ment is located on the University’s Delaware Campus, six miles north of Wilmington.

. Brunch lo Aid March of Dimes WILDWOOD - The Saloon (formerly the Hofbrau) at 3400 Pacific Ave., is sponsoring a Sunday Brunch /to benefit the March of Dimes 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Feb. 6. A portion of the tab will be donated by the Saloon to the March of Dimes. There are over 60 items on the buffet and Bloody Marys will be available for a special half price.
