COURT HOUSE - Cape May County Freeholders will support the Cape May Point Five-Mile Run with their hands, but not their feet. Irene Monge, borough clerk and treasurer for the run, last week asked the freeholders to sponsor the Cape May County Trophy in the June 18 event, given to the local resident who finished first. Freeholders indicated they would be willing to put up the $35-50 cost of the trophy, won last year by John Malinowski of Wildwood. But Freeholder Gerald M. Thornton got no support for his suggestion that new freeholder James Kilpatrick should run the five miles. “You’re th? newest member of the freeholders,” said Thornton. ”1 think it should be the youngest,” replied Kilpatrick, a reference to County Wins High er State Reimbursement . COURT HOUSE - A $3,000 gamble has paid off in big bucks for Cape May County. The Freeholders last year retained Samuel Kline & Co. to audit the county's operation at Crest Haven nursing home and appeal the medicaid reimbursement paid by the New Jersey Health Department The consultant convinced the state the county’s costs were higher, Freeholder Gerald M. Thornton announced last week, and the county will save almost $100,000 for the fiscal year July 1, 1982*. to June 30, 1983. The new formula assures the county of a $200,000 saving in the next fiscal year, Thornton said, and that could go as high as $300,000 Kline was retained for $3,000 plus 30 percent of the first-year’s savings. That means it will make about $33,000. Crest Haven has HO residents, Thorton said, mostly over 65, lowincome, in need of longterm care, and Medicaideligible.

Thornton. “No, it should be the newest,” persisted Thornton. "Well, I am the lightest,” Kilpatrick concluded.
