Revaluation Delayed

OCEAN CITY - The revaluatkm^of property here which was to have beer! finished by last Dee. 1 for the current tax year will be a little late. In effect, a year late, according to James E. Andrea. city tax assessor. The city has obtained an extension to Sept.. 1 this year, and the revaluation will be completed for the tax year IT IS EXPECTED that the project will be completed by sometime this spring. Then notices will be sent to all property owners by Appraisal Surveys, which is conducting the revaluation. The new tax map block and lots are online at the computer center and will be effective for 1983. An area on the new tax bills this year will show the old block and lot numbers. NEW JERSEY now mandates that updated maps be produced for every revaluation, incorporating all the changes since the last approved maps, Andrea said. In order to finish the revaluation, only the computer input data is required so that all values for land and improvements can be completed for all' properties. THE DELAY was caused. Andrea said, by difficulties with "the state computer trying to talk to the Appraisal Surveys

computer." The work of Appraisal Surveys is over 60 percent finished Andrea added. The field work is complete and there remains only the computer work, which should be the fastest part of the job. "In comparison to Atlantic City, which has fewer line items and took over two years for completion of its revaluation," said Andrea, "I think that we arc not too far out of line for the time period involved in our municipality."
