drive, to the Atlantic City training center or jobs. THE PROJECT was suggested at PIC’s Jan. 12 meeting by John Warwick, executive director of the Atlantic County Opportunity Center for Rehabilitation. which would charge $1,097 per trainee. He said the program has been successful in Camden. Gloucester and Salem counties The trainees would be clients of Jersey Cape Diagnostic, although George Plewa of that agency indicated at last week’s PIC meeting that it might not ftave 16 suitable persons -ft was suggested that other trainees could come from the New Jersey Voca-tional-Rehabilitation Center at Rio Grande. MICHAEL FAY of Vocational-Rehabilitation, charged with recommending a transportation solulion, reported that operators of 20-passenger vans indicated they needed 16 clients for this to be a profitable operation. Fay said a round-trip price of $7-8 per person had been mentioned. After he cited several carriers from Atlantic and Salem counties, PIC member Jerry McGargo asked if it was not possible to find a Cape May County carrier. "One of the reasons for PIC is to spend money in the county." he said. Fay said he had talked with Casino Excursions of Wildwood Crest PIC principal planner Caren Gross suggested PIC might be able to "pot a local person into the transportation business by assisting him financially." OTHER PIC members indicated they disapproved of "creating a competitor" to existing Ideal transportation companies. Fay said his agency might be able to pay for the transportation for the first several weeks of the eightweek training course, which would be held from 8 a m. to 4 p.m. It is expected par ticipants would work the midnight to 8 a m. shift. Chamber of Commerce executive director Robert C. Patterson Jr. said car pools might be possible because about 2,010 county residents work in the casinos. IN OTHER BUSINESS, McGargo said he had "put myself in someone else's position’ and tried to find the PIC phone number in the telephone book. He was unsuccessful, he said. He was told the agency was listed under the county airport, where it’s located. The listing will be changed. The board also agreed to ask the county to print PIC business cards for its members. Its next meeting will be at noon on March 9 in the Lodge, North Wildwood.
