OCEAN CITY - The 1983 Regional Grounds Maintenance Conference will be held at the Flanders Hotel, on the Boardwalk at 11th St.. Thursday. Feb. 24. This all-day training session is open to anyone interested in grounds maintenance. It is designed for maintenance supervisors, landscape contractors, garden supply dealers, lawn servicemen, nurserymen, school grounds maintenance workers, cemetery caretakers, park supervisors. golf course greenkeepers, county and municipal maintenance supervisors and all others responsible for turf and landscape maintenance

Homeowners and gardeners are welcome. THIS PROGRAM is sponsored by the Cooperative Extension Service of Rutgers University. Larry Newbold, County Agricultural Agent, said that the conference should be especially interesting since it is not only an educational opportunity, but also an opportunity for pesticide applicators to get recertification credits at the same time. Copies of the entire program are available by contacting the County Extension Service office. 465-51 15. There is a registration fee for the • meeting and a charge for the luncheon. Anyone desiring to attend is urged

to contact the Extension Service and make reservations well in advance. A NUMBER of specialists from Cook College of Rutgers University will be presenting new information / for the 1983 growing season. One of the highlights of the meeting will be a specialist from the US Forest Service in Durham, N.H. speaking on "New Research and Techniques on Tree Prun ing and Shrub Pruning.” Many of the old techniques are now obsolete based on current research findings.

PRINCETON f The movement to repeal a law calling for lax withholding of interest paid on savings accounts has drawn the support of 12 oL the 14 New Jersey members of Congress, including Rep William J Hughes of Oocan City. The new Jersey Bankers Association said a lisl com piled by the American Bankers Association shows that support as sponsors or co-sponsors, for repeal legislation comes from both sides of the political aisle. WITHHOLDING of 10 percent of the interest paid on savings accounts by all financial institutions as well as the dividends on stocks and other in

vestments is scheduled to go into effect July 1 unless the law, passed at the previous Congressional session, is repealed. Supporters of the measure said it was necessary to catch tax cheats, but that claim has been disputed by financial trade and consumer groups . (i () V K It N M E N T A L sources indicate that from 94 to 97 percent of all taxpayers correctly report and pay federal income tax on their interest dnd dividend income. William E Kennedy Jr , president of the ABA. said that the withholding provision "was considered in haste and did not receive the public ncrutiny essen

tial to the democratic process. Even today, a large majority of the public is unaware'that tax withholding on savings and dividends is scheduled to begin July 1.”
