BELL TELEPHONE is using South Jersey as a test area for the installation of public coin phones accessible to the disabled. Called drive-up telephone coin booths, they are low-level booths which can be used from a sitting position. It also has been installing handset volume control units in its public phones for people who are hard of hearing. Thb drive-up phone booth is also considered convenient for the nonhandicapped. This area was selected as a test area for telephones for the disabled because it is main ly rural and sprinkled with much-used thoroughfares and roads. It is projected that 10 percent of the county's coin stations will be low level for the disabled if the tests prove successful. Hundreds of area phone booths are already installed at a "universal height” of 54 inches, which is not too high for people in wheelchairs. Some services provided for private homes include a tone ringer attached to phones of residents with impared hearing, a light signal for the deaf which flashes on and off when the phone rings, a small elective fan for blind and deaf residents Which signals the phone is ringing and headsets for those who cannot hold a handset. The Crest’s Sinn's Dock, long time home to the "Flamingo" sightseeing boat, is being offered. Also "up for grabs" is the Peter Shields Inn, a restaurant in the former Cape May Tuna Club. Interestingly enought, still “in the works" is a movie about a sightseeing boat disaster at sea. The film was written by the Crest's Bruce Davison, who used to be an announcer on the PT-109 sightseeing boat at Sinn's Dock. Davison is the son of long time Crest colonist, Mrs Marian Hubbert. He has interested Carroll O’Connor, ''Archie Bunker" in the project and has a tenative acceptance from his friend. Shelly Winters, to star in the film. O’Connor would have a financial interest in the movie but would not appear in it. Davison first starred in “Willard" the movie about a man who kept rats as pets. He also appeared in the TV movie about Jan and Dean and in "Elephant Man” on broadway When all the loose ends are tied together, it is believed that some or all of the film would be produced on the island LOCAL PHOTOGRAPHER Doug Hunsberger is doing photographs for a catalog for Spencer Gifts, the international mail order house near Atlantic City. Assisting Hunsberger has been the Crest’s Greg Grasso, a doorman at the Penalty Box. Grasso was a production assistant on the "Touched" Robert Hays film made on the Wildwood Boardwalk. James Darren, EnzoStuarti and many others. The untimely passing of Karen\ Carpenter recalled the ^star's appearance at Wildwood Convention Hall. At that time, she told your scribe she would love to stroll ~the Boardwalk and play skee-ball, but celebrities just weren't able to do the things everyday folks did. deputies will be used to prevent crimes In our neighbor county by reporting potential criminal acts to law enforcement officials. Youths between 13 and 15 years of age will be acquainted with duties of the sheriff’s office, state laws and the purpose of law enforcement. The program would charge a $10 fee per youth to pay for a cap, badge, arm patch and identification cards. The fees will make the program "self-sustaining.” About 300 youths are expected to join. Those selected will be responsible for other attire including a white shirt and black pants and for their own transportation. While these youths will not have any official powers, officials believe just their presence will deter crime. If you think this might be a good idea for our county, let the Freeholders know of your wishes. ,

Each year, 7 million Americans suffer on-the-job injuries, of which about 800,000 are back injuries. The State of Washington made a study of the results of surgical techniques on back injury victims. Twenty per cent of all surgery cases were total failure. Another 20 per cent were found to have "very good” results. The other. 60 per cent were somewhere in between. Certainly surgery has its place but many cases of
CHWOntACTOK back injury respond very well to more conservative and far less risky chiropractic procedures, completely non-surgical. It pays to investigate all alternatives, including chiropractic, where back injury i^involved.
