STONE HARBOR - With four highly successful years behind it the Garden Club of Stone Harbor has plans for a boorping year Club president Mrs Ramona Wilson reported on past progress and the enlarged activities planned for 1983. She said that from the club’s formation in November 1978 when it had 20 members, the club today boasts a membership of 140 She added that the principal aim of the club is to beautify the borough and to this end. members have been responsible for planting flowers and trees on the Second Avenue flower beds and also on the bed at the entrance to the town. THE CLUB has had some stellar speakers at the monthly meetings and has organized bus trips to the Philadelphia Flower Show; to Longwood Gardens; to the Doris Duke Gardens in Somerville, the Garden of Winterthur in Delaware and the County Extension Service. In keeping with its activi ty the club holds yearly out door plant sales It has held flower shows in Ocean View Lutheran Home, and

Last year iKheJcI a very successfuKcoclttail party for members and guests. $32,400 Will Aid Recycling TRENTON - State grants totaling 132.400 have been awarded to the county Municipal Utilities Authority and lo Ocean City to assist in their recycling programs. The MUS is getting $14,000 in program planning funds These, according to Theodore F. O’Neill, solid waste manager, will go to the purchase of baling equipment to be used in handling corrugated paper products, brown paper and sacks received from the municipal programs in the county IN ADDITION, the county agency is getting $15,000 in an education grant. A third will go to the MUA’s recycling newsletter, flyers for the county’s campgrounds, which are major target for this summer's recycling efforts, and setting up a recycling curriculum in the schools. About two-thirds will go to help municipalities publicize their recycling programs An additional $3,ono grant went to Ocean City to publicize its recycling pro gram It was the only municipality in the counly to share in the recycling grants Gov, Thomas Kean announced that an additional $2 million in formula, or ■'tonnage’' grants will be distributed to municipalities on the basis of the amount of materials they recycled during 1982

REVENUE FROM these activities has enabled the club to make financial donations to other borough organizations like the Volunteer Fire Company, the Rescue Squad, the scholarship fund of the Elementary School, and to promote Arbor Day. This year’s monthly meetings will be held on the second Monday of each month in the Firehouse. Scheduled through June are some outstanding speakers for these meetings. In addition special events covering the Spring months are planned. including a Shell Workshop, a House Tour, a Plant Sale and a summer cocktail party. IncludciTin this Spring program will be a bus trip to Atlantic City to visit one of the Casinos.
