Ag Awards Presented To County Leaders

TUCKAHOE — Standing ovations were given to Jay V. Fairchild, president of the Bridgeton Farm Credit Service, on receiving the coveted “Distinguished Service to Agriculture Award”, presented by the County Board of Agriculture, and to Vincent DiLuzio, farm leader from Tuckahoe, who received the Leadership Award, presented by the Cape May County Extension Advisory Council. The awards were presented at the County Board of Agriculture Annual Venison Dinner, Feb. 19, at the Tuckahoe American Legion Home. Over 250 rural and farm people attended the dinner.

ALSO HONORED at the dinner for outstanding 4-H program achievements were Cathy Bailey of Delmont, and Robert Parks of Court House. In addition, Tuckahoe Tjirf Farms received the ‘Conservation Farmer of the Year Award", presented by the Cape-Atlantic Soil Conservation District. Fairchild has distinguihsed himself in the field of agricultural credit and service to the agricultural industry, Fairchild began his agricultural career as a County Agricultural Agent in New York State in 1948 after completing his U.S. Naval Service to World War II and graduating from Cornell University with a degree in agricultural economics. FAIRCHILD BEGAN his service with the Farm Credit System as a Field Man in the Bridgeton Office in 1963. The Bridgeton Office of the Farm Credit Service handles farm loans in the counties of Atlantic, ^Cape May, Cumberland, and Salem. Fairchild received his promotion to manager in 1960, and recently was elevated to the position of president of the farm credit cooperative. Vincent DiLuzio, longtime farm leader from Tuckahoe, was the recipient of the Annual Leadership Award presented by the County Extension Advisory Council. In presenting the award, Extension Advisory Council Chairman Leslie C. Rea said, “Vincent DiLuzio, your qualifications and achievements to receive this Leadership Award are truly outstanding. Equestrians 4-H Horse Club. Parks has assisted in laying out trails for the State 4-H Trail Horse Ride, worked to promote 4-H during National 4-H Week, escorted contestants in the 4-H Queen Contest, served at the 4-H Spaghetti Dinner, worked on fund raising for the new pole bam at the County 4-H Fairgrounds, and helped to organize and conduct a number of other 4-H activities. Assemblyman Guy Muzi a n i, a nd Cou nty Freeholders James S. Kilpatrick, William E. Sturm, Jr, and Gerald M. Thornton. Toastmaster was Harold H. Shaw of Marmora, president’ of the County Board of Agriculture. Community singing was led by County Agricultural Agents John N. MacLeod and Larry E. Newbold, accompanied on the organ by Libby M-acLeod. The venison dinner was served by members of the Tuckahoe American Legion Post.

of the County Farmers Home Administration, County Water Policy Committee, and the County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee. DiLuzio also received the Distinguished Service Citation to New Jersey Agriculture at the State Agricultural Convention in January. Cathy Bailey of Delmont and Robert Parks of Court House were honored as the Outstanding 4-H Young Woman and Young Man of the Year. Their awards and citations were presented by Leslie C. Rea, County 4-H Foundation Director, and past president of the County Board of Agriculture. CATHY BAILFY is an eleven-year 4-H Club member excelling in animal projects. She has completed projection Equine Care and Management, Veterinary Science, and Livestock and Small Animals. In addition, she has excelled in Leadership and Citizenship, having held many 4-H offices in the Hidden Acres Saddle Tramps Club, and having served on many 4-H committees. Miss Bailey’s special activities in 4-H include animal clinics, horse shows, public presentations, window display contests. 4-H Horse Bowl, and 4-H Competitive Horse Trail Ride. PARKS WAS commended for his strong sense of commitment to the overall 4-H Youth Program. Serving as Junior Leader of the Hot Wheels Slot Car 4-H Club, he helped to guide younger members in new , skills, citizenship and responsibility.
