Dining Guide

IN OLDEN TIMES the year began in Mai^h. It does make sense in a way to begin the year with the Spring rather than iri' midwinter as we now do. The name of March comes from the Roman god of wa^Mor*. Perhaps he was a spring god before he becajprnWir god. Or perhaps the Romans chose his name for the month because they thought it a good time for war. Those old Romans! E^arly March can be days of surprises in weather. Just when we are all ready for spring, looking for our first robin, and the first blooms of the crocuses, we may awake any day to find a new, clean snow blanket over everything, a sharp, keen wind, and the mercury in our thermometers down below the 20 degree mark. We’ve been watching those noon shadows lately (have you???) and we know they are getting much shorter than they were in December This means that the Sun is creep ing higher and higher in the sky at nobn. We also notice that it gets light much earlier in the mornings these days than it did in December, and darkness comes much later in the evening now. THINK SPRING! And as we roll along this month, here’s some suggestions for adding some flavor to the new season getting underway: HENNY’S—A GREAT LUNCHEON PLACE. Henny’s at 97th & Third Avenue, Stone Harbor, has been a landmark restaurant and lounge for mAny a year, and the food seems to get even better over the years which is hard to believe since it’s always been great! The daily luncheon open salad bar Tuesdays-Saturdays 11 30 to 3, and Sundays 12 to 3 allows you to "do your own" with plenty of ingredients to choose from The dining room is open during the winter on Fridays and Saturdays 5 to 10, and Sundays 3 to 9 Be sure to take your appetite along when you go to Henny’s—you’ll be well rewarded! LOTS OF SQUARE MEAI>S AT CAPT’N ARAB'S! Spr ing like nights you’ll want to have restful dinners at the one and only Capt’N Ahab's, located on Rt 47 (Wildwood Blvd ) between Rt. 9 & Garden State Parkway, Rio Grande, where everything is delicious and no one goes away hungry. No matter when you visit here, you're sure to find the fine food, reasonable prices, and relaxing atmosphere to be the perfect combination. Open for dinner Sunday through Thursday from 5 to 8, and Friday and Saturday from 5 to 9 Bring the family — children's platters are available with special portions to keep the youngsters happy SUNDAY PRIME-RIB BUFFET AT THE PIRATES DEN. From 2 to 8 p m. Sundays, the Pirates Den Restaurant & Cocktail Lounge, Bayshore Rd. & East Delware Parkway, Villas has a hard to beat Prime-Rib Buffet that includes soup and salad bar, & eight other entrees, all for $8 95 for adults and $4.95 for children Treat you and yours to this extravagant feast Also recommended is Char-Broiled Steak Night. Wednesdays from 5 to 9, for just $7.95. Choose from filet mignon, sirloin, Delmonico, T-Bone or Prime Rib Cooked before your eyes on the open hearth! What taste tempter! THE HERALD'S INN SERVES LUNCH & DINNER. Jack Cundiff's Herald's Inn, Rts 9 & 47, in Rio Grande has always been a great place for enjoying the finest food and entertainment throughout the afternoon and evening (Page 19 Please)
