Voll Appoints Advisory Council

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE - Middle Township Mayor Michael J. Voll has appointed a 25-member advisory council “to open the lines of communication between the township committee and the public.” He said every community in the township is represented on the council. Terms run for one year, without compensation. The council will meet with the mayor at regular intervals to discuss township problems. A township news release called the council nonpartisan. The list of council members which accompanied the release identified each by party affiliation. There are 15

Democrats and 10 Republicans. The committee is 2-HJemocratic. The council was a proposal of Committeeman Char he s Leusner, Democrat who was elected in November. Leusner praised the appointments of Voll, also a Democrat, As being based on “qualifications and geographic considerations." . Committee member Patricia Peterson, a Republican, voted “no” on the first reading of the ordinance creating the council, but "yes" on ti^e second reading. Voll said many of the appointments went to people who asked to serve on the council. “I feel certain that we can improve the quality of

government by obtaining more citizen input,” he said. The council includes 16 regular members and nine alternates, but all will attend meetings and each will have a vote. The council will be sworn in at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 10, in the Municipal Building. Regular meetings, open to the public, will be held the second Thursday of each month. Regular members are Ralph Valeri, Cape May Court House; Franklin Unkle, Goshem; Ron Barber, Swainton; Mrs. Catherine Cornell, Cape May Court House; Mrs. Elizabeth Lynch, Pierces Point; Mrs. Dorothy Bailey, Del Haven; Rod Downs, Green Creek; Bud Nissen, Rio Grande; John Richardson, Whitesboro.
