Business Briefs New Workers Need Number
By JOE ZELNIK Cape May County young people looking forward to their first summer job are reminded they'll need a Social Security number and should allow the bureaucracy at least two weeks to produce it. Applications are available at the Social Security office at 136 E. Spicer Ave., Wildwood. Harbor Furniture Outlet in Burleigh is celebrating its eighth anniversary. Since opening in a small 1,600-square-foot building on North Wildwood Boulevard eight years ago. the business has expanded to an additional building and now encompasses more than 18,000 square feet. The store is owned by Dot and Lee Nichols and their son, Bill. They came to Cape May County from Alabama 20 years ago. Crestcove Condominiums, which includes seven townhouses and four apartments is expected to be completed by mid-April. They're located at 7100 New Jersey Ave. and carry
price tags between $90,500 and $121,000. Project is a joint venture of Joseph Popper Inc. and Citizens Federal Savings and Loan Association, which is offering financing. Work has started on another building at Park Center Storage in West Cape May Building No 4 will have 6,000 square' feet and be ready for occupancy by mid-May. It will offer not only self-service storage units, but also of fices and five store-front units suitable for light industrial and service-type businesses. Guarantee Bancorp Inc of Atlantic City reported net income of $1 3 million in 1982 compared to a net loss of $17 million in 1981 President Joseph F. Brad way, Jr. said new insured money market accounts have brought the bank new funds "available for appropriate lending purposes,” Legislation signed by President Reagan excuses agriculture and other "off road" business users from
the 5-cents-a-galion gasoline tax hike. Generally, farmers and fishermen who purchase fuel in bulk are not charged the tax If they buy fuel at a pump, a rebate can be obtained by filing the fuel receipts and Form 4136 with the IRS. Despite, or maybe because* of, the recession, nationwide state lottery sales climbed 32 percent in 1982, to about $3.8 billion One theory is that laid-off factory workers who used to play illegal numbers at work are boosting sales * • The Social Security Ad-
ministration said it expects a $19 trillion deficit during the next 75 years, compared to the $16 trillion estimate of President Reagan's Social Security Reform Commission. The former used a lower birth rate projection and thus calculated fewer workers paying into the service. A newspaper ad for a handyman drew nearly 1.000 applications No, not in Philadelphia. Warsaw.
