Student Exhibit Slated

CAPE MAY-An exhibit of work done by students from the county’s elementary schools will open at ' the gallery of the County Art League, 1050 Washington St., Saturday, March 12. The opening reception will be 1-6 p.m with refreshments. At 3 p.m. prizes will be awarded. Exhibits of school art are a tradition with the league, and are held during the spr ing months each year. All public and private schools in the county are invited to participate. The opening show will feature 4 the work of students from grades 1 through 6 It will continue through Tuesday, March 22, during regular gallery hours 11 a m.-3 p.m., Tuesdays through Saturdays. JUDE BURK HAUSER, resident manager at the league, announced that the following schools are submitting work to this exhibit: Cape May City Elementary and Star of the Sea, from Lower Township, Maud Abrams. Lower Township Consolidated. Heritage Christian Academy. Memorial, St. Raymond's, South Jersey Christian Academy, and Teitelman Schools: Ocean City Intermediate and St. Augustine's Schools; Stone Harbor Elementary; and from Wildwood St. Ann's and Wildwood Elementary 1. All prizes are being donated by the league There will be a gift certificate for art supplies for Best of Show; and ribbons for first, second and third place in different classifications, with first place winners also receiving gift certificates.

Refresher In Typing Pays Off

VILLAS - The Lower Township Charles Buddy Lewis VFW Auxiliary will hold a Safety Night tonight beginning at 7 at the Post Home on Delaware Parkway. Six speakers — including Dr. James Manlandro. founder of the Cape May County Advisory Council for Alcoholism; former Lower Township Mayor Jake Lincoln, and county Emergency Management Coordinator Lyndon Simmerman — are scheduled to discuss such topics as drug abuse, alcoholism, safe driving, guns and hun-

ting safety, storm protection and boating safety.

RIO GRANDE - The Job Training and Placement Division of Cape Human Resources Inc recently completed a typ ing refresher course. As a result of the course, three students applied for and obtained jobs on their own, for a 374 percent placement rate. The course was con ducted for six weeks in January and February through the cooperation of Division Director John Roy, staff members Pat Sutton and Elsa Vernon and Job Training's Mama Bradshaw. Also helping in the program were . Dot Harley, child sitter; Wes Jasuncosky and Ken Norbury, driving; Pat Waters, typing assistance, and Peg Quinn, student placement help. Barracks Will Lose Middle

CAPE MAY -r The U.St Coast Guard Training Center is seeking bids for some major surgery on one of the fecruit barracks which is showing undue symptoms of wear The project, anticipated to be accomplished for under $250,000, is for surgical demolition of the three-story, 19,000 cubic foot reinforced concrete central core, leaving four three-story wing structures in place THE PART scheduled for destruction, which houses offices, storage space and stairwells, is structurally failing.
