a. Exposure, Time Cut For X-Rays

COURT HOUSE r Keith Habore. technical director at Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital, has an nounced the use of Kodak I^anex rare earth intensify mg screens and ortho (i. Films which immediately

cut the amount of radiation exposure to patients by more than 50 percent "The new screens will save money and increase efficiency in the radiology department." Babore said "The speed of exposure

helps reduce the number of X-ray examinations that must be redone if the patient moves, which is very common when examining children and senior citizens • tup: LESS TIME it takes for the exposure, the less likelihood of movement blurring the X-ray study, which reduces the number of retakes." he noted More important, is. he said, the reduction in radiation exposure to patients and staff The new screens contain phosphor compounds based on "rare earth" elements that absorb and convert X rays to light more efficiently than ever before The light emitted by the screens exposes the specially sensitized film to form the diagnostic image The rare earth system is twice as expensive as the calcium tungstate screens, but with reduced exposure, the X-ray tubes will last twice as long. Babore said With the reduced exposure and the additional life added to the R-ray tubes this system will more than pay for itself, he added
