Cap Waived OCEAN CITY - The city Board of Education's request for a $741,000 budget cap waiver has been granted by the state commissioner of education. School officials contend the waiver is needed to prevent the layoff of at least 20 employes, fund field trips, and provide equipment and maintenance for the new high school addition. The $10-million budget that will be put to the voters in April is expected to be approved by the board this week. Stone Harbor’s chamber of commerce has announced its principal speaker for the dinner meeting, March 21 at Henny's, 9628 3rd Ave. Cocktail hour starts when you get there and dinner/is served at 7.p.m., followed by the speaker and concluding with the business meeting. Principal speaker will be Gary L. Rudy, new director of Retailer Promotions for the Herald and Lantern. known for many years as a Cape May county businessman. His background is diversified, interesting and extensive. He graduated from Penn High School in Pittsburgh and was employed by the G.C. Murphy company there in 1958 Transferred to Cape May County in the 'eo's, he soon became a manager ih their Ocean City store. He then managed the Pacific Ave. store in Wildwood and was appointed General Manager of the CMCH Murphy's when it opened in 1977, one of the chain's largest outlets in the U.S. Soon after assuming this post he was drafted into the army and served on a general's staff in Europe He served in a total of 11 European countries and while in Germany, took ex eculive training seminars at the famed university of Heidelburg One of the most exciting moments of his career was standing on the platform with President John F Kennedy while JFK delivered his "Ich Bin Ein Berliner" speech WHEN HE RETURNED to civilian status he was elected one of the outstan ding young men of America in 1970 Rudy has been continually active in civic af fairs. He and his wife, Bra. live in Rio Grande and he is currently Prexy of the Middle Twp Crimestoppers. in
