Throughoul the 60s. AI Kooper (not to be confused with Alice Cooper) was a highly visible character on the rock scene. He was a successful songwriter, band leader (Blues Projcct/Blood Sweat & Tears), solo artist, and record producer In the 70s. Hooper became more involved in behind the scenes operations. letting his own recor ding career fall behind Championship Wrestling (Columbia) isn't the type of release that'll put him in the limelight again, but it is a record AI Kooper should be proud of. The seasoned musicians and vocalists Kooper has brought together for this album give fine performances and Hooper s writing, playing and singing are still sharp and under control. All I can say is welcome back and I hope a few of you will check out this nice little album Nighthawk <PO Box ,15)156. St l^ouis. Missouri 63114) is this incredible lit tie label that releases great blues and reggae, and one would be making a terrible mistake not writing to them and asking for a catalog Two releases of vintage blues that I've been giving a lot of listening time to are Downhome Delta Blues 1919-1952 and Chicago Slickers Vol 2. 1948—1955 Both albums compile some hopelessly obscure tracks of influential and little known bluesmen With names such as Little Walter. J.B. Hutto, .lnhnn\ Shines. Big Joe Williams, and Karl Hooker, blues fanatics know the music is going to be of exceptionally high quality and they won't want to miss out on these
two records Remember to ask for their catalog. This label is doing an important service keeping our musical heritage in circulation. The third Psychedelic Furs release Forever Now (Columbia) is another impressive showing for the English band. In fact, this is probably their most cohesive recording so far and it's due to their new producer. Philly born whiz kid Todd Rundgren. He’s given The Psychedelic Furs a richer instrumental sound and enhanced the vocal sound. If this part nership continues. The Furs should emerge as one of the leading forces of rock in the 80s
