Women are supposed to enjoy visiting beauty salons as much for meeting friends and hearing gossip as they do to get gussied up Don’t kid yourselves—men go for the same reasons Last week When our spouse took off for a haircut he came home brimming with local chitchat “Guess who was there too," he quiered Aside from his barber. Roger on 3rd Ave.. he bumped into I.en Wallace, from whom we-bought our home, using crutches, for a short time only we hope; Raymond Carboni. an almost lifelong friend in Avalon, "Happy Harry" Kerb Jr. our plumber, and buddy Krnie Blair who. with his wife Ruthic. helps manage the horosponsored Arts Show. Aug 6 and Crafts Show, Aug 7 at B2nd St and the beach Ernie had just recently recovered from highly successful surgery on his leg at Deborah Hospital in Browns Mills and by the time you read this Ruth and he will just have returned from a trip to I^s Angeles and San Francisco where they visited their two sons WENT TO S.H. Elemen tary .School's Science fair March 19 and truly realized the vastness of our ignorance The fair, manag ed by Bob HHdnr.i and Marge Crimmins, was something in which all par ticipating pupils, parents and teachers can take great pride Before presenting Bob Heidorn. who announced the winners in each class chosen by 5 judges after a period of 2 days judging. Principal R. Donald Wendorff declared this the “best Science Fair yet “ He felt it plainly was an accumulation of learning gleaned by pupils from their various courses Winners werej- in the order of prizes 5th Grade, 1st Tracy Taylor; 2nd. Chip Spitz; 3rd. Amy Daugherty; 6th Grade. Chris Ruef, Bill Romherger.. Jim Musumeci, with a tip for Honorable Mention split by Shawn Glrgan and John Spindler; 7th Grade. Eve F'ord. Katie Buff. Denise Pfaltzgraff, and Bth Grade, l.aura Harrison. Kelly Daugherty and Pan Meadowcroft. Some of the highlights for us were talking to Tracy Taylor, who told us that our sun has produced “in one second alone, more energy than mankind has produced in all its history" Another.was looking at Jim Musumeci’s shiny collection of polished stones with lighting effects; Chip Spitt’s Aerodynamic exhibit demonstrating lift, gravity, thrust and drag Eve Ford’s colorful display of the solar system and Laura Harrison's exhibit of beach erosion was dramatic—even scarey. WE HAVE ALWAYS been interested in our forebears 'particularly the rascals) and since many of our deccndents settled both in South Jersey and Burlington County, one of the first organizations we joined when retiring here was. happily, the Cape Mav County Historical and Genealogical Society in CMCM It’s a lovely museum and contains a

wealth of genealogical data. We get a newsletter on a regular basis keeping us up to date on developing programs, descriptions of their many towns and odd bits of information about our local communities. The March letter contained one item which made us fall back and punt It reads “The Ocean View Fire Company has a school to give away Believed to* have been built around the turn of the century, this one-story wooden frame building features a pressed metal ceiling Persons in terested in obtaining more information should contact Fire Chief George Robinson at 263-8536 ; Real Estate dealers, look alert’ The price is certainly right Move over. Tiffany and Cartier's Forget Worth Ave in Palm Beach. Stone Harbor is on its way! Some time ago we recounted the adventures of Father William Shelton of St Barnabas Church, Furry Ferraco (both of the Villas), and Ruth and Herman Kiipp ) he heads Ihe electrical firm) of Stone Harbor Ruth is one of the leading proponents of the Helen Diller Vacation Home for the Blind If you read this column you know it was a rewarding, strenuous trip covering most of S America For Ruth Kapp it was more than that For tireless Ruth, it was a new focus on life Always a gal with business acumen, she visualized the possibilities of importing and selling the limitless precious gejns available in Brazil Since then she returned to Rio. acquired a partial interest in a jewel mine and half interest in a local store sell mg only genuine stones The other half is owned by Ron and Lisa Lucas; new name is Imperial Gem Stones & Jewelers, at 212 98th St. They'll specialize in Brazilian gems. Colombian emeralds and diamonds Ron is a highly qualified goldsmith and during^ summer they ex pect to have a Brazilian designer working with them to add eclat to their accumulation of precious stones The partners have already donated two perfect amethysts <in excess of nine carats) to be raffled off at the S.H Sea Lion's Benefit Luncheon and Fashion Show for the Diller Home on May 1() and the S.H. Women's Civic Club for their 70th Birthday Celebration May 30. Buy lots of chances — these are of heirloom quality. There'll be an opening party at the store held in conjunction with the William Ris Galleries, which ad joins it but fronts on 2nd Ave. They'JI also enter the Better Living Show in Cape May. held March 25-27 at Convention Hall
