Plans Run For Mayor’s Post

AVALON - Coun cilwoman Rachel Sloan for mally announced her candidacy for mayor of the borough by filing her petitions last week ‘My platform is simple." states Sloan “I want to give the people of Avalon honest government, economical government, and government serving all the residents. " Mrs Sloan has been a Borough Council member for the past four years, ser ving as Council President in 1981 82 She is currently on the Budget and Finance Committee, and has been an active member of the Public Works. Recreation and Beautification Commit tecs Special projects in which she has been involv ed include the County Municipal Utilities Authority, the Avalon Pre School Program, the Housing Aid * For Elderly OCEAN CITY - A Congregate Housing Services Cirant for $11,500 has been awarded to the City Housing Authority by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, accor ding to Governor Thomas H Kean Kean said that the grant will enable Bay View Manor to provide shelter and support services to the elderly through the provi sion of subsidies for congregate service consisting of one or more daily meals, housekeeping services and personal care assistance

Councilwoman Sloan has been actively involved, in the community, including the Avalon Chamber of Commerce. Garden Club, Home and Landowners . Association and Women’s Civic Club. She served a term as president of the Avalon Stone Harbor Branch of the Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, was a captain of the Cancer and Heart fund drives from 1978 to 1980 and also has been a member of the American Cancer Society Board of County Planners. A graduate of Ohio State University, Mrs Sloan holds a B.S degree in Education Administration and completed post graduate studies at Penn State University
