Special Olympics

The COURT HOUSE Kiwanis club will sponsor the 1983 County Special Olympics Invitational Track and Field Competition Saturday, April 16. The competition is open to persons 5 and up who have submitted completed medical forms to the State Special Olympics Committee and applicatons to John J McVey, principal of the Middle Township High School, ACTIVITIES WILL include 25-meter, 50-meter. 200-meler, and 400-meter dashes as well as a 400-meter relay race. Other events will include a softRegistering Scuba Class CAPE MAY - The City Recreation Department is accepting registrations for its Scuba Diving class for the spring schedule This NAUI course is nationally certified and consists of 32 hours of instruction plus two final dives The class will give the swimmer a proper introduction to equipment use and the ocean environment. Upon successful completion students will receive a certificate and a card verifying a passing effort in a nationally certified Scuba course. The course runs through May 30 For information contact the Department of Civic Affairs at Convention Hall in Cape May or call 884-8411 ext. 20 or 27.

M&F Cops Hoop Title

SEA ISLE CITY - MAE Plumbing took the cham pionship of the city men’s basketball league by beating Pfeiffer’s 70-64. The new champions heid the lead throughout the contest until Pfeiffer's tied the score at 61 with five minutes to play A clutch 3-pointer by Cpt. Jim Romano, six straight free throws by Dr Mark Sisko and foul trouble for Pfeif fer’s iced the game KELLY OF M&F was high scorer for both teams with 25; Romano scored 17, Pass chipped in with 18, Sisko with 12, and Pass with 11 for the winners Hartley was high .for Pfeiffer's, with 21, aided by S Trulli’s 14. and 10 each from Sobrinski and M Mullen

ball throw, a tennis ball throw, a long jump. fisbee throw, and a Pentathlon which includes five dif ferent events. The meet will be held at Memorial Field, Pacific Ave. and Rt. 9. Preregistration will begin at 9 a m., opening ceremonies will start at 9:30 a.m. and all events will begin at 10 am. RIBONS WILL be awarded to all places in all events and county Special Olympics Invitational T-Shirts will be presented to all participants The Stone Harbor Lions Club will provide free bag lunches and drinks to all participants, and refreshments will be for sale to all others. Kiwanis Clubs from Cape May, Baytown, Wildwood and Ocean City are also providing volunteer help and financial assistance For further information call McVey at 465-9411, extension 301.

Ecology Seminar Slated

SEWELL - The Southern -New Jersey Freeholders Association w.ill sponsor an en vironmental issues seminar for local officials 8:30 a.m.-l p.m. Saturday. April 9 at Glocuester Coun ty College's Student Center. The event will, feature two separate workshops, with the first to include topics on recycling, landfill siting, acid rain and gypsy moths. The second session will highlight an update on the Superfund and the federal Environmental Protection Agency as well as state allocation of toxic clean-up monies, discussions on the Pinelands and clean water and sewage treatment. OPENING remarks will be made by George Tyler, deputy commissioner of the state Department of Enviionmental Protection. U S. Rep James J. Florio <D Ist-NJ), chairman of the House Commerce, Transportation and Tourism Subcommittee and author of the Super fund legislation, is featured as the luncheon speaker The association comprises the eight southern counties, including Cape May.

Wilson had many excellent plays of the ball off the net for the City. The second game was a much more exciting affair with the Playmates pulling it out 15-13. Nicb Federoff of the City kept things close with this fine serves. In game three,of the Playmates again assered their dominance, taking the game 15-9. In the second match Rio Grande Building Materials shut out Marine National Bank with Rio Grande 3 games to zero. The first game was a 15-1 walk-over for Rio Grande Ernie Triano inspired Rio Grande with some impressive overhand serves In the second game, Marine Bank came storming back behind the serving of Vicfei Roop, Rio Grande held on

to a 16-14 win. Game three was another tough loss for Marine, 15-12 Peter Kakoyonnis kept Rio Grande in the game with his spirited play The third match featured two evenly matched teams, the Shire and Shelter Skelter, playing hardnosed volleyball with Skelter taking the match 2 games to I. Game one set the tone for things to come in the evening as Skelter squeeked out a win 16 14 behind the serves of Gad Geiger Game two was a nail-biter with the same score except with the Shire ending up as winners behind the serving of Sue Fitz and Bill Blazer. The third and deciding game was again a close match up with Skelter nipping the Shire 17-15 behind thf serv ing of Lou Ginsberg
