Council Upholds Arcade
By M KI.LKN ROWLAND STONE HARBOR - No! without some procedural difficulties, the Borough Council has reversed its stand and upheld the Zoning Board of Adjustment's decision to allow operation of an amusement arcade at 326 96th St. For awhile during the meeting April 12 it looked more like a game of musical chairs during the
hearing concerning the Zoning Board's decision to allow Mrs Norma Conly to operate an amusement arcade at 326 96th St. AT A PREVIOUS hear ing Council had overriden the Zoning Board's decision in a 3-3 tie vote, which was broken when Mayor Arden Hand cast the tiebreaking vote to disallow the arcade. pealed Council's ruling in Superior Court, before Judge Philip (Jruccio. who ruled Mayor Hand's vote was a conflict of interest because his place of business. Fred’s Tavern, is too close to the- site in dispute He also instructed Coun cilman Harry Strohmetz to reconsider his vote This. Borough At torney William Balliettc suggested a short recess for a closed hearing Council president Eric Arneberg declared a brief closed hearing for Council and within ten minutes Council> returned from an adjoining room, to hnnounce its findings The vote cast was 3-2 in favor of upholding the Zon ing Board's decision. Coun cilpersons Eric Arenberg. Herbert L. Hornsby Jr and Dorothea Pfeiffer voted to support the Zoning Board and Councilmen Robert Firzpatrick and Lou Clelland against They im posed furthej- restrictions on use and reserved the right to aplpeal Food Service Gnirse Slated COURT H0US8 - The County Health Department will conduct a revised Food Service Managers' Train ing Course. 1 p m April 25 and May 2 at its Crest Haven Office Building The program was started in 1978 to offer Food Service owners and managers an opportunity to learn the proper principles'of sanitary food service Those who attend both sessions and complete the course will be awarded a certificate of completion To register, call the Health Department at 465 3181; Extension 221 before Thursday.
