MUA Rebuts Claim On Rate Hike Bid
SWAINTON Members of the County Municipal Utilities Authority reacted strongly to a published report that the New Jersey Water Co.’s request for a $5 2 million increase in its water and sewerage rates was in part due to "higher regional sewage treatment and disposal costs" in Ocean City. THE DAILY newspaper article that appeared April 20 stated the New Jersey Water Co. hod proposed a rate hike that would raise sewer bills in Ocean City by an average of 7 percent In other business, the authority learned the odor control facilities being in stalled in Ocean City are still on schedule and will be completed during the 100 day contract period "We were delayed secur ing regulatory agency approvals," MUA r ’hief Engineer Charles Norkis stated, "but now thoi con tractor has ordered the necessary equipment There wont he any noticeable construction activity by the contractor un til the equipment arrives but work is underway We are also anxious to see progress " NORKIS ALSO said the obsolete Ocean City ^aslewaler facilities al 3rd and 46th Sts have been demolished "The demolition work has been completed The aesthetics of the area have been improved greatly "
