Followers of The Who have long heard about Pete Townshend's incredible home recordings and. at last, he's allowed some of them to be commercially released. This two-record set not only gives us tunes that haven't appeared previously, but also original versions of numbers that ended up on Who albums. Hearing Townshend. singing them, instead of Roger Daltry, gives the material a new perspective Scoop <Atco> finds a talented man. usually alone, doing what he does best, creating some pop masterpieces This collection allows us the oppor tunity to see the early, basic stages of Pete Townshend's creations and we should be thankful he's issued this project An added bonus is the detailed information Townshend provides — giving tips to making better home recordings and what inspired the

Blurgrass fans won’t want to miss out on an amazing two-record set cal led Bluegraas The Greatest Show On Earth (Sugar Hill. P.O. Box 4040. Duke Station. Durham. NC 27706). Gentlemen
The sound is upbeat, fun, and always pleasant This rural brand of country music doesn't get much media attention, yet the genre survives — which is probably due to the hard work of indie labels such as Sugar Hill, but also because the music is so enjoyable. This compilation is perfect for the bluegrass novice as well as the seasoned Tan. One of Europe's most durable and long lasting bands has been Golden Earring, although their Stateside success has been
sporadic. However, they’re back on the charts and their latest album Cut is quite good. The band combines the power of heavy metal with pop melodies and the overall effect is rather successful. The guitar arrangements here are top-notch, with
smooth vocals adding the right touch to ensure radio airplay. I don’t know if Golden Earring will be able to sustain this new found success, hut one thing is certain; they’ve worked hard to survive and this platter is proof their efforts haven’t been in vain.
