Wilsey Will Run For Freeholder

COURT HOUSE - William R. Wilsey of the Petersburg section of Upper Township filed nominating petitions last week to run for the Cape May County Board of Freeholders as an independent Republican. Wilsey. 56. is a former Sea Isle City mayor and served as a freeholder for six years, being elected to two.' three-year terms in 1971 and 1974 Wilsey chose not to seek the Republican nomination in its June primary election. but. instead, will run in November on an independent line. He said a primary fight would have been “a losing battle and I would have had to spend a tremendous amount of money "I have no inclination to fight an organization of which I'm a member." he added The GOP. he said, forced him out of the primary by deciding on a ‘‘closed primary, thus depriving me of any chance of winning the nomination " The party is backing incumbents Ralph W Evans and William E Sturm Jr Wilsey is a retired mathematics teacher at Mainland Regional High School ■All the present freeholders hold several other jobs." he said.
