Avalon, Wildwood Voters Will Elect Mayor, Council

By ROB SMILES Some 4,500 registered voters in Avalon and Wildwood will elect a mayor and several council representatives Tuesday. Polls will be open in both communities from 7 am. to 8 p.m. In Avalon, a mayor and two council members will be elected to four-year terms. This ■ is the first mayoral election since the borough switched from the commission form of government to mayor council in 1979 Mayor Ellsworth Armacost is not seeking reelection. The mayoral race features incumbent fc’oun cilwoman Rachel Sloan, endorsed by Armacost, and local Chamber of Commerce President Ernest Yarborough, president of Cape Insurance Center Inc of North Wildwood. SQUARING OFF for the two available council seats are incumbent CounOilwoman Grace Keen; Richard Light, vice chairman of the local planning board and the borough's risk and insurance consultant, and Pauline Petrica, a member of the local zon ing board of adjustment and the borough’s recreation commission An estimated 1,550 voters in all three of the municipality's voting district can cast ballots at Community Hall, 30th St, and the beach Wildwood's first mayorcouncil election features a two-way mayoral contest coupled with a 16-candidate race for five council seats The mayor and two available councilman-at large terms are four years, while the council representatives from the city's three wards will serve twoyear terms. Convention Hall Director Earl Ostrander hopes to unseat incumbent Guy F Muziani Ostrander's campaign has featured a call for change, contending that his opponent has failed for II years to provide adequate leadership Muziani has campaigned just as

hard defending his record, accusing Ostranger of lacking knowledge about "inn e r w'o r k i n g s of government.” Running for council are: Karen M Dougherty, Stephen L. Perkins, Thomas C. Karter, Larry Snyder, Anthony J. Salomone, First Ward; Emma Jackson, Walter J. Cottman, Jr, Lena P Adgie. Second Ward; Charles Kuski, Frank Bunks, Louis Suppa; and Edward F. Herman, Victor DiSylvester, George Young, Sr, William McClurkin and Nazareno Regalbuto, councilman-at large. SOME 2,950 are eligible to cast ballots at nine poll ing places throughout the city They are: First Ward — The Hut. 113 W. Oak Ave., first district; Pine Ave. Fire House, 111 E. Pine Ave., second district; and Glenwood Ave. School, third district. Second Ward — Wildwood High School,
