Women’s Civic Club Releases ’83 Roster
STONE HARBOR - The 1983 roster of the Women’s Civic Club is dedicated to its 70th Anniversary and is ready for distribution. The roster contains a special list of members who have been members for a number of years. It lists the officers and directors of the club as well as all chairladies and their committees for the weekly summer events. It includes a reprint J a newspaper article that summarizes the highlights of the club's seven decade history. It contains a special article on how and why the club added the word “civic" to its name, written by 40-year member Mrs. Grace Wingert, who was president of the club in 1945-1947 Another article is a
reprint of a poem, nostalgically written by Mrs. Jesse D Meader when she was club president in 1941-1942 and covers a 25-year history in verse, read at the club’s Silver Anniversary. THE ROSTER also contains a list of 182 members, an increase of 21 over last year. The total of year- round residents remains at 71 percent, the same as last year. The monthly club house luncheons will again follow the innovative format that created a lot of interest and enthusiasm from the members, by making the luncheons more formal, with outstanding speakers and a variety of programs The June 14 luncheon and meeting will be a British Brunch of Fish and Chips
The program will feature the "Color Connections" by Karen Nordahy The July 19 meeting will be a Chinese Luncheon Each member is asked to bring a treasure to be auctioned off at a Chinese Auc tion, with the proceeds going to the Club's building fund. The third luncheon and meeting will be held Aug 16. It will be a Hawaiian Holiday with a welcome to new members and installa tion of new officers OTHER EVENTS plann ed for the Anniversary Year include a Dutch Treat Opening Day Luncheon at the Whitebriar on May 24 Then, on May 30, members will participate in the American Legion Memorial Day Ceremonies Immediately following these ceremonies a 70th Anniversary Open House will be sponsored in the c.lub house with refreshments for all Continuing the Annivcr sary Year events will be the 34th Annual Antique Show and Sale, July 5, 6 and 7 in the Elementary School. It will open Tuesday at 6 p.m -10 p.m ; Wednesday from II a m to 10 p.m. and Thursday from 11 a m. to 3 p.m Lunches will be served on the last two days, Another big event is (he 30th Annual Little MiSs Stone Harbor Coronation It too will be staged in the school building on July 22 with entertainment ahd awards. The Wildwood Golf and Country Club will be the setting for the Apnual Fashion Show Two kf the boroughs finest women's specialty shops will sYage this show of the latest fail styles Professionals and club members will model clothing from the Harbor Bootery. and Lingerie and Things Ticket reservations for this extraganza to be held on Aug 3 may be made with Mrs William Klotzbucher TWO ADDITIONAL EVENTS to be held at the clubhouse, 96th & the beach, will be a Benefit Cocktail Party for the Helen L Diller Vacation Home for Blind ('hjldren This affair will be co sponsored by the club and the Sea Lions and will be held on Aug 14 A Sea Mart and Family Day will be held on Aug 27 with a rain date of Aug 28 Special programs will be Dancing for Fitness on the last three Mondays in July and the first three Mondays in August. The classes will start at 9:30 am in the club house A series of winter programs are being planned and will be announced at a later date A Local Art Show will be held Sept. 4 On Sept 11, a special 70th Anniversary event will be held in Our Saviour Lutheran Church, where the whole town and its many organizations will gather for an Ecumenical Service Proceeds from the sum mer programs are spent on local charitable and worthy causes
