Tall Cedars Convene

By CHARLES MATHIS WILDWOOD - Virginia Beach solons are gnashing their teeth over the loss of one of their largest and most lucrative conventions. the Tall Cedars of North America. Their fiveday convention opens today in Wildwood. The Tall Cedars are the largest annual contributor to Jerry Lewis' Muscular Dystrophy telethon plus other charities too numerous to mention. On Saturday, bring your own seating for the largest parade ever on the island, featuring scores of floats, hundreds of clowns and comedy units and bands and marchers of every description. THE PARADE starts at 11 a m., runs from North Wildwood to the Crest on Atlantic Avenue, and is expected to take four hours to pass any given point The conclave of at least 7,500 marks the first major invasion of Canadians with the Hamilton. Canada Forest. Classboro, N.J. Forest 183 was the first Tall Cedars Forest in the U.S.A. Forests visiting here are from as far away as Madiera Beach, Florida and Cftumbus. Cincinnati and Springfield, Ohio There are dozens of forests present from New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Other sizeable delegations come from cities in Rhode Island. Massachusetts. West Virginia, New York, Connecticut, Maryland and Delaware The first event this week \^as a tree planting at the Lions Center. New Jersey and Wildwood avenues.

But the real festivities begin during an Octoberfest in Wildwood Convention Hall tonight with a continuous whirl of activities throughout the rest of the week. THE CALIBER of the membership may be judged by a recent addition, exPresident Gerald Ford.

Ford has been invited to drop in on the local conclave If he does appear, there will likely be no advance announcement because of Secret Service considerations. In any event, Wildwoodians can look forward to one of the most colorful weeks in island history.
