Gty Looks To Spring Cleanup

OCEAN CITY - This community intends to keep its landscape clean this season. An ordinance passed in 1978 designed to eliminate weeds, garbage and other litter will receive its annual spring enforcement begin ning this week by local police. "Most of our residents keep their yards, lots and places of business in excellent condition." noted Joseph Kane, city administrator "This ordinance is directed at those few who neglect their properties with health and fire hazards resulting " THE ORDINANCE reads that "The preservation of public health, safety and general welfare and the elimination of fire hazards requires that all lands ^ within this municipality he kept clear of brush, weeds, dead and dying trees, stumps, roots, obnoxious growths, filth, garbage, trash and debris." "In the coming weeks city staff will be watching for areas in violation of the ordinance," said Kane "Residents arc urged to cooperate." Property owners and tenants will be notified personally or by mail that a violation exist* and be given 10 days to remedy the situation Failure to comply can mean a fine up to $500. “OUR OBJECTIVE is to keep the clean, healthful environment which means so much to Ocean City intact,'' said Kane. ‘‘Residents have cooperated in past years and I’m certain that cooperation will continue ” A copy of the ordinance is available at the City Clerk’s Office. 9th and Asbury Ave.

JAMESBURG - Mrs. Katherine T. Umfrid, R.N. of Cape May was re-elected secretary of the American Lung Association of New Jersey at its 77th Annual Meeting at the Forsgate Country Club. A registered professional nurse, Mrs. Umfrid received her training atLankenau Hospital School of Nursing, Philadelphia, and at Temple and Rutgers Universities. Past positions include staff duty at Lankenau Hospital and Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital; also, school health nursing, private duty nursing and volunteer nurse practitioner. She is a member of

numerous organizations, including the Navy League of the United StatesTrenton Council, Nurses Alumnae Association of Lankenau Hospital. Cape May County Nurses Association and the Lutheran Deaconess Association. Mrs. Umfrid has been a member of the State Lung Association's Board of Directors since 1976, and had previously contributed more than 20 years of service bn the Board of the Cape May County TB and Health League and of the American Lung Association of Southern New Jersey.
