Maybe Muddy Waters never attained the commercial success of a B.B. King, but the legendary bluesman who passed away this month at the age of 68 was one of the gutsiest, hard driving singers and guitarisLs who have cut a record If it weren’t for Muddy Waters there wouldn't be acts such as The Rolling Stones, J. Geils Band, or George Thorogood, who used him for iaspiration and even "borrowed" actual songs form him Muddy Waters' roadworn voice was a thrilPto listen to and one only has to put on the recently releas ed collection of early sides titled Rollin' Slone (Chess! to hear the master in his prime What saddens me the most is the fact that losing this fine bluesman is another nail in the coffin of the genre iLself Young blacks seem more interested in being the next Prince or Rick James and fewer are keeping the tradition of the blues alivft. Muddy Waters' will be missed.

Jt's A Wonderful Life <DB, 432 Moreland Ave. NE Atlanta, GA. 30307) is the first solo album for Chris Stamey. who is a member of the delightfully talented pop band the dB's Unlike the soaring guitar work and clear cut pop melodies of the dB's, Stamey tries to experiment more on his own The end

result is a bit confusing at first, but after a few spins seems to make more sense. Stamey’s voice is distinctive and the songs enjoyable. My only real complaint is thedry, mechanical rhythm which is supposed to make it sound contemporary but only gives the whole project a dull edge. Don’t miss out on the dB's two fine albums, which are available only on Albion Records in England The rise to stardom for Ireland's U2 has been a pleasant circumstance Their third album is another little gem which is highlighted by sterling guitar breaks and the popish vocals of Bono War (Island) is proof U2 are still coming up with solid material and top notch per formances, despite the hectic touring the group has been forced into because of its success. U2’s War is a pleasurable listening experience.

Bob Everhart's Everhart International (Folkways. 43 W. 61st. N Y C., 10023) is a warm collection of folk tunes The arrangements are quite exciting, highlighting the exquisite musicianship of man dolinint Roland White and fiddle player Eddie Young. Topping it off is Everhart s smooth, relaxed voice Folk music has had some rough years, but this is the type of record that could help start a new revival
