"I'm going to enjoy the summer,’’ he said, noting that he will be retiring June 1 after working 23 years with the association He will be succeeded by Herbert Hornsby Jr, of Stone Harbor “It’s time to let the younger men take over," Strohm said pointing to the fact that during his 10 years as president, Cape May County Savings and Loan has shown "tremendous growth." "In those 10 years, we've gone from $31 million to $95 million in assets." he said. and by the end of the year we. hopefully, will hit $100 million " ' Strohm, who resides in North Wildwood with his wife, Grace, has been a part of the Cape May County banking scene for 32 years He first became connected with Cape May County Savings & Loan in 1961 after it merged with the Five Mile Beach Building and Loan With Five Mile, he served as q, director, and assistant secretary and treasurer Prior to being elected to his present position with Cape May County Savings & Loan, Strohm served two years as the association's first vice president. His presidency began in 1973. "There's been tremendous growth in the past 25

years," the outgoing president said. "Our county has grown tremendously, and I think its future is one of the best in the state." Strohm said he's very op>timistic about the future success of the association "When we first started, we had only one office. Now we have seven," he said. "Through the years we have opened branch offices in the Vjllas, Marmora and Ocean City. Currently we are completing a new headquarters facility that will include a collection of professional offices in an adjoining building." If everything progresses on .schedule, the association’s new headquarters at the old Acme site in Court House will open sometime in August. Houston Named S&L Veep COURT HOUSE - Fred Houston, formerly vice president of Sturdy Savings, has been elected vice president of the Cape May County Savings and Loan following the choice Of Herbert Hornsby Jr. as president. Houston majored in accounting and business administration at Golden Beacon Junior College and has extended education in the banking and communication fields. He is married, has children and is a resident of North Cape May. Dentists Elect Dr. McConnell COURT HOUSE - Dr Stephen Paul McConnell has been elected president of the Philadelphia County Dental Society. Dr McConnell concurrently holds the positions of president of the Temple University Dental Alumni Society and the Philadelphia Society of Orthodontists. He practices orthodon tics here with Dr. Jeffrey W. Vecere.

Gas Co. Gets OK For Hike FOLSOM — South Jersey Gas Company (South Jersey Gas) has been authorized by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (bPU) to increase its rates by 4.7 percent or $8.65 million, according to William F. Ryan, president of the company The new rates will take effect for service rendered on and after May 19 The increase includes approximately • $1.2 million for gross receipts and franchise taxes and $3 4 million for federal taxes. Under the new rate schedule, the average heating bill for a residen tial customer using 200 therms per month during the 1983-84 heating season will increase from approx imately $127 to $135 At an average usage of 800 therms for a heating season, the cost for heating will increase by $25, from $491 to $516 In comparison, the heating cost for fuel oil based on the equivalent of 800 therms is $647, while 800 therms of heating with an electric heat pump costs $729. The new price of natural gas is equivalent to 88 cents per gallon of home heating oil. "SOUTH JERSEY Gas is concerned about the escalating cost of natural gas," Ryan commented, "and we have been actively involved in negotiations with our supplier, Trancontinental Gas Pipe Line Cor poration (Transco), to control the cost the Company must pay for natural gas " The company is opposed to the deregulation of natural gas, because the company believes that deregulation will result in unnecessary, additional in cieases in the price of natural gas. Cumberland and Salem counties, and in portions of Burlington, Camden and Gloucester counties.
