Guidebook Is Her Tribute to Mate

CAPE MAY - The city’s first and only visitor's guidebook goes this year into its fifth edition, dedicated to one of its originators. This la Cape May. A Viaieor'a Guide, was coauthored and published in 1974 by Donald and Jean Timmons. Timmons died in 1981, but his widow, Jean, has carried on with their original plans, and has dedicated the new and expanded edition to him. Governor of the Jersey Cape Colony of the Society of Mayflower Descendants, and as so many other Cape May Countians, he was a John Howland descendant. Mrs. Timmons is also a Mayflower descendant through lineage to Francis Eaton, Richard Warren and John Billington. She is presently serving as recording secretary to the Jersey Cape Colony of Mayflower Descendants TTie 1983 edition of This Is Cape May has a sparkling new cover, a full-page montage of 15 color photographs, a chapter on the historical aspects of the Victorian Era. an Appendix consisting of an architectural glossary,

several descriptions of architectural styles par ticularly prevalent in Cape May along with specific examples of them It also includes a selected reading list for Cape May devotees This new edition also con tains the usual updating of scheduled activities, the noting of new events, and other cha nges and additions

Mrs Timmons says that she is pleased and excited about this new publication "I really believe that Don would be pleased as well But I have missed his guiding hand this time around '' . Copies are now available in area book stores and numerous other shops in town

OCEAN CITY - Tlie newly reorganized Community Chorale will give its first concert 7:30 p.m Sunday, June 5 on the Music Pier, admission free The director will be Charles L. Taylor, of Somers Point, a graduate of W Virginia University with a master's degree in music, and Mrs Florence Maguire, of Marmora, a graduate of the Philadelphia Music Academy, will be the accompanist. Mrs. Maguire was the accompanist for the original chorale, which was dissolved in 1977 THE CHORALE will per form a small sacred cantatc, The Anthem On the Peace” by G.F Handel and a secular cantata. Ballad for Americans by Earl Robinson, plus other sacred, folk and secular selections Tom Perkins, bass/baritone, will be the soloist-narrator for The Ballad. Other soloists will include Lois Likens, Jean Eichorst, Marian Callen,

Elmer Stevenson, Barry Keefe and all members of the chorale will have solo' lines in The Ballad
