CG Veteran Plans A Civilian Career
CAPE MAY - Dental Technician Chief Charles McGinnis is winding up a 19-year cateer in the Coast Guard with his retirement July 1. But he won’t be leaving this city, where he has spent 17 years of his Coast Guard career. He intends to set up a dental laboratory in his home. MC GINNIS 42, has served 19 years in the Coast Guard and four in the Marine Corps. Formerly the Health Benefits Advisor at the Training Center Medical Facility, he has been called a ‘‘Homesteader'’ by other Coast Guard members when they learn of his long stay here. It doesn't bother the chief since he feels very settled in Cape May and is glad that he and his family have been able to remain in the city. Like all Dental Technicians in the Coast Guard, McGinnis started out as a dentist's chairside assistant Then he moved into the Dental Lab and did all the prosthetic work, mak ing dentures etc , until he got promoted to Chief Petty Officer and began administrative work at the facility. BESIDES HIS 17 years here the chief also spent a year at Air Station Cape Cod and a year recruiting in New York City He also
CHARLES MC GINNIS
attended a school for Den tal prosthetics in San Diego for six months Even though his official retirement does not begin until July 1. McGinnis's last day of actual work was May 27. He admits to look ing forward to getting out of the Coast Guard However, he does have some mixed emotions "I've been here so long. I'm really going to miss the people in the Coast Guard ... but, I'm anxious to see what it's like being out on my own."
