Workshop June 12-17
Photographers will have an opportunity to sharpen their skills with some of the country’s outstanding photo-journalists — including Parade Magazine Photo Editor Arthur Rothstein and Pulitzer Prizewinner Max Desfor — at the Chalfonte Photo Workshop June 12-17. The five-member faculty will assign picture stories and guide the participants through individual counseling and small group discussions. The completed picture stories will be presented at a banquet at the end of the week. i ROTHSTE1N, whose photojournalism career spans five decades, will head the workshop. As the first photographer to join the Farm Security Administration, the agency that documented life in the U.S. during the Great Depression, Rothstein shot some of the most poignant photographs ever taken of rural and small-town America. Max Desfor won the Pulitzer Prize for his coverage of the Korean War. He worked as a photographer for the Associated Press for 45 years before taking his present position as photo director of U.S. News and World Report. Completing the workshop’s faculty will be Billie Shaddix, Director of Photographic Services at the White House in Washington: A1 Danniger, University of Maryland professor with over 40 years of photography and teaching experience, and W.G. Williams, photographer and frequent writer for many different photographic trade magazines. For additional information, contact W.G Williams, the workshop coordinator at (202) 29&-4414.
