WILDWOOD - Prepara tions are being completed for The Wildwoods to host the 60th National Marble Tournament again this year, June 20-23. About 50 contestants ranging in age from 8 to 14 are expected to participate. New entries are expected this year from Alabama and Michigan
leagues, civic organizations, and informal play. Individuals, organizations businesses joined forces to bring about the transformation. A fundraising effort coordinated by the Civic Affairs Dept generated $1,500 in donations Volunteer workers and city employees and the addition of 120 tons of material contributed. Sponsors and volunteers involved in the project were the Kiwanis Club, Pete Leonard Plumbing and Heating, the Greater Cape May Chamber of Commerce, National Associates, Greater Cape May Little League. Camp Slated For Booters CAPE MAY - In conjunction with Star Soccer Camps, the city is sponsoring its Annual Summer Soccer Camp on July 11 through July 15 at Lower Cape May Regional High
School.
The camp is for boys and girls 7-17. Players will be divided into groups according to age and ability to insure the greatest individual progress Each participant is fully insured while at camp, including benefits for illness and basic accident medical expenses. THE STAFF of the camp is made up of teachercoaches dedicated to youth and to soccer. Skip Roderick, former player and assistant coach for the Philadelphia Fever, will direct the camp. Registration forms can be obtained at the Department of Civic Affairs in Convention Hall on Beach Drive. For further information call the Depart ment of Civic Affairs at 884-8411 ext- 20 or 27. Course Set On Boating CAPE MAY - A sixweek course in safe boating and seamanship will be conducted by Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 82 at its headquarters, 39 Yacht Ave., beginning 7 p.m. Monday, June 20. and continuing on successive Mondays. There will be a nominal charge for the textbook For information call Mel Ellis. 884-4020. John T. Lincoln, public education officer, reminds boat owners “If you trailer your boat, boating safety begins at the driveway, not the ramp.” HE POINTS out that the trailer should be checked carefully, and that all required safety equipment and Coast Guard Auxiliary recommended safety gear should be aboard. Proper trailering is one of the subjects taught in the safety course. Owners can also obtain a free courtesy marine examination for safety equipment by contacting Ellis.
Chamber Tourney Is On June 8
COURT HOUSE - Final plans have been completed for the Annual Spring Golf Tournament sponsored by the County Chamber of Commerce, The Spring Open Tournament will be held Wednesday, June 8, at the Stone Harbor Golf Club, beginning with a “sho»gun start" at 9 a m. A buffet luncheon will be served following the morning round of golf. Scoring for the tournament will be the Calloway System. A rain date of June 9th has been set. All area golfers are invited to come out for the morning round of golf and the luncheon and awards program that follows. Many prizes have been donated by Chamber members and county businesses. Members of the tournament committee are: cochairmen Matt Tomlin, County Voc-Tech, Bill Osborn, Atlantic Electric, Robert McCullion, Sears, Court House; Bill Kiser, N.J. Natural Gas Co and Chet Wimberg, Ocean City funeral director. Yoga, Anyone? STONE HARBOR - Yoga classes will be offered at the Wetlands Institute, Stone Harbor Blvd., on consecutive Thursdays through July 14, beginning 7:30-9 p.m. tomorrow, June 9. Instructor is Ruby Phillips, who has taught yoga at Vo-Tech. For information, call 967-5095. Boro Builds Bike Track STONE HARBOR - A BMX bike track has been built by the borough on borough-owned property at 80th and Third Ave. Mayor and Council authorized the construction of the track in response to requests from children from the Elementary School, who complained of a lack of winter recreation. A similar track has been built in Middle Township and one is under discussion in Sea Isle City. The track was built by borough maintenance men. The site will be improved with landscaping enclosures and will be off limits during evening hours. Children are now using it after school.
