Jersey Cape NATURALLY"

Each year at this time I issue a plea to area residents to take care near the beach nesting sites of the endangered least tern and black skimmers. This year I’m asking again. For the least tern one of the most critical sites is on the northern most tip of the beach at Strathmere. Here is located the ( major colony in the county — 300 , strong. The traditional site across the inlet at Ocean Crest I State Park does not have as manyij birds as previous years.

Black simmers are nesting with the least terns on the beach at Strathmere as well as on a little island which can be viewed from the Deauville In.. The colony on Stone Harbor Point is very exposed too and could be easily destroyed. So please heed the warning signs posted around the colony. Don’t walk into the nesting areas or allow dog to run near the nursery. Your cooperation can mean the difference between life and death for

these beautiful birds.

Please share with your feathered neighbors and allow them these special sites for nesting June through mid August /£..
