Learning’s Run Opens Season

Village Will Host Spinners, Old Cars

SWA INTON - Learning's Run Botanical Gardens opens today for their sixth' season. The 20-acre gardens -offer a blend of bloomingiflowcrs Jack and Emily Ap^jll have developed the extensive gardens, highlighting the natural woodland beauty with the best varieties of plantings. Winding paths lead the visitor through more than two dozen varied gardens. An Evening Garden combines shades of blue and white, while the English Garden has numerous varieties of flowering plants. There is a Reflecting Garden, a Serpentine Garden, a Yellow Garden, and a Down Jersey Garden. There are gardens of one or more color and shade, while others feature celosia, begonia and snapdragons. . At trails end Emily's dried flower arrangements are displayed in the Cooperage, a barn which was built in 1730 by Christopher Learning, a whaler, and one of Cape May County's first settlers, and used in the 1700's to make barrels for whale oil. The gardens are on Route 9. between Avalon (Exit 13 Garden State Parkway i and Sea Isle City Boulevard, are open daily from 9:30 to 5 p m. from June 15 through Oct 20

COLD SPRING - Twin attractions, the Kauker Family of Spinners and ti e Jersey Cape Region Antique Automobile Show, will be offered at Historic Cold Spring Village this weekend. "If you believe in rein carnation, you can unders land me when I tell you that I was a spinner once before in this world,” says Julie Kauker, the moving spirit of the Kauker Family, who will appear and demonstrate Saturday and Sunday. "When I first sat down behind the spinning wheel in 1976, I can tell you that 1

knew things other people had to learn," says Mrs. Kauker. A 1922 DODGE open touring car will he one of the oldest stars of the antique automobile show Sunday. The vintage auto is one of three owned by the region's president, Jim Stapleton of Somers Point. He has invited Cumberland County’s Cohansick Region Antique Automobile Club to display on the Village Green also, and expects a large turnout of handsome old cars from Cape May and Cumberland County
