Few of England’s Martin Carthy’s albums have been issued in the States, which is a great pity, as he's a major force in Europe's folk-music scene. His new album, Out 0/ The Cut, (Rounder) is a complete delight. Carthy has an expressive voice that nicely fits these traditional tunes. His guitar playing is melodic and the support of John Kirkpatrick on accordion and Howard Evans on trumpet adds some color. More of Martin Carthy's music should be released here, but I’m sure Out Of The Cut will have traditional folk lovers importing his other fine releases. The Honeys earned legendary status without

ever having a hit record. In the early 60's they released several wonderful girl group records which were produced by Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys. Later on, they added their sublime harmonies to various Beach Boys hits and album cuts. But, the group fell apart due to their lack of success and Marilyir Rovell's marrying Brian Wilson. COLLECTORS have placed high value on those now hard to find gems by The Honeys and all this late attention has gotten the three girls back together. Ecstasy (Rhino, 1201 Olympic Blyd.. Santa Monied, CA 90404) is a strong pop effort The songs are well

chosen — we’re treated to two Brian Wilson tracks never before released — and their voices are still powerful. Their cover of the Grassroots' golden oldie, "Temptation Eyes" could even find some strong airplay. Rockers might be disturbed by the middle-of-the-road approach, but. all in all, this is a pleasant record and a strong comeback for The Honeys. Looking forward to their next venture into the studio. At one time, England's Lindisfarne seemed destined for great things. Their early, folk-rock efforts were praised in the music press and they loured with the likes of The Kinks. Unfortunately, they never found a hit. broke up, and have recently gone back into the studio to try again. Sleepless Nights (Shanachie) is a solid col lection that’s more rock than folk (often sounding like latter day Beatles). Their harmonies arc still a joy to hear and the music is consistently strong. The only drawback is the lack of an obvious single. Lindisfame is a group worth rooting for,
