^ Kelly Quits County, Republican Posts

COURT HOUSE - Donald M. Kelly of Wildwood Crest last week resigned his $31.190-a-year job as Cape May County economic development director and his unpaid job as treasurer of the county’s Regular Republican Organization posts he's held for about 12 years The freeholders had suspended Kelly from the development post for 90 days on May 27. citing alleged misconduct for pro posing private investors pay a consulting fee to a

friend who helped Kelly put together the financial package for the fledgling Container Decorating Co. at the county airport industrial complex. The fee was intended for Lois Goodpaster, 30. financial services officer of the New Holland, Pa Farmers National Bank. It" was 9 percent of Cape Equity Partnership which owns 52 percent of Container. Kelly. 52, was born in Philadelphia, graduating from North Catholic High School and receiving a degree in marketing management from LaSalle College in 1957 He is within reach of a longtime goal, a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Oklahoma, which he was working on by attending classes in Washington, D C. once a

week.

It was while in the Air Force in Oklahoma in 1951 -54 that he met his wife.

Praise PIC For Topping Jobs Goal

Cape May County Private Industry Council (PIC) vice chairman Armand Gagnon last week praised the staff for a portion of a report showing it had topped its “unsubsidiz ed private sector placements'' goal for the third quarter of PIC’s fiscal year. The goal was 32; 38 had been placed by the end of May And the quarter runs to the end of this month Freeholder Director Anthony T Catanoso explain ed this is what the program is about — getting people trained and into full-time unsubsidized employment. He oversees the PIC office PIC has several programs that can help county businesses in training future employes, either in classroom, or on the job. In many cases PIC will sub sidize 50 percent of an On-The-Job trainee for a prescribed length of time These programs help the unemployed, who need training to get a job, as well as the employer, who has the high costs of training Where there is sufficient need, classroom training can be set for special job classifications Any business in Cape May County with employment needs should contact the PIC offices at 886 0985 The service if free

KELLY HAD BEEN a sales representative for Lederle Laboratories and for Warner-Lambert Co. for more than a dozen years when he came to North Wildwood in 1970 to help his father run the nowdefunct Ramble Inn on Bayshore Road in Villas. He was one of 10 persons who applied for the county's economic develop ment post in 1970 And he got it. Until about four years ago, that job includ ed airport development Kelly got into local Republican politics 10 mon ths after arriving, working in behalf of Jack Sparks, son-in-law of Freeholder Anthony T Catanoso Sparks went on to become Lower Township mayor and Kelly was subsequent ly asked to be treasurer of the Regular Republican
