THE BKi SUMMER WEEKEND is coming up and no doubt about it, everybody and everything will be in town. A lot of folks take their vacations around this time of year — and into those weeks they've got to pack in plenty of fun and festivity to last until the next vacation rolls around. Before we relate more about the Fourth of July holiday, we thought we'd mention anothei attribute of July. July 3 until August 11 are called the dog days'. The dog of the name is Sirius, the Dog Star, which rises with the sun during this period. It is a popular notion that this"is the hottest and muggiest part of the year, and this is often true. There is no truth, however, in the superstition that dogs lure likely to go made from the heat. While we humans would like to get into a coo^spot, many of our plants and animals revel in this heat. Cherries, blackberries, and raspberries, currants and gooseberries ripin in it, and so do our early apples and peaches. Sunflowers are growing rapidly now and will begin to bloom before hot July is over There will be band concerts and fireworks displays to mark traditional Fourth of July celebrations throughout local communities. Less we forget, Independence Day marks the day when the Declaration of Independence was adopted 207 years ago And now, how about celebrating the holiday at these suggested spots: CAPT’N ARAB’S — For Everybody. Food is a celebration throughout the year at Capt'N Ahab's attractive restaurant, on Route 47 (Wildwood Blvd.) between Rt. 9& Garden State Parkway, in Rio Grande. Excellence is never overlooked whether you select food that is prepared in the old-fashioned ways. Frank and Jane Banner, (The Captain A His Mate) work hard, but seemingly effortless to insure ah always memorable visit to their comfortable restaurant. Open Monday through Saturday from 5 to 10 p.m.. and Sundays 5 to 9 p.m SYLVESTER'S — Always Something Fishy Yes, there's always something fishy and delicious going on at Sylvester s Fish Market & Clam Bar located at 21st & 5th Ave., Avalon The succulent bounty of the seas are served for casual or at home eating. Mussel lovers are directed to savour the flavorfully prepared Mussels served in red sauce, wine sauce or drawn butter The Broiled Dinners include Flounder. Bluefish, Alaskan King Crab or Whole Lobsters. While the seafood and fish bounty is what many customers drive miles to enjoy, Sylvester’s always offers Fried Chicken dinners, homemade soups and tender burgers Cafe Loren — Superb There's no point in being modest when describing the extraordinary fare at the Cafe Loren in Avalon, at 23rd & Dune Drive, Avalon The Continental food is just plain incredible, delicious beyond words. Only the best is served here, including such fantasies as Escargots a la Faison (escargots with fresh garlic, walnuts, orange rind with gruyere cheese baked in mushroom caps). Seafood Mariniere, a combination of fresh seafood sauteed in a special Newburg sauce) and the great, great Fettuccini Alfredo with Lump Crabmeat. l/n surpassed dining. GODMOTHERS — Fine Jtafian Dining Godmothers is in its first season, at Broadway & Perry Ave., Cape May (at the crossroads of Cape May and West Cape May), and < Page 31 Please)
